Pokémon Rumble Blast has a similar vittually unwinnable first stage battle against Zekrom, and another later on against Cobalion. The final boss also puts up a barrier when its HP reaches half that leaves it immune to attacks and gradually fully healed, that is removed after a cutscene. There’s almost certainly cheats that exist for that game, so perhaps that could be covered?

I fought the guardian in age of clamity both on demo and and main sence without playing botw I good at deflecting the Lazer an I forget if I did it on hard mode the first time I got the level without level grinding. Lol

I actually fought him in the demo (at the level that implies), took a while but worked lol

I saw a lot of Twitter clips of people who played the demo and managed to defeat the guardian.

My brother killed it somehow. He just kept hitting it with link's sword and dodging.

I myself reflected the beams, dodged, and used stasis to defeat it. (Also attacking of course)

Hallway Bowser gets +3 defense when using the star rod. HOWEVER, this defense is unpiercable unlike anything else in the game. Meanwhile Super Bowser's star rod gives him infinite unpiercable defense. (This is the refight, not the glitch seen here. this fight is a bit different as you have seen.) Speedrunners just tend to beat hallway bowser so fast you never see this in action.

Bowser’s on a budget, he knows he’s in an rpg. How cost efficient of him to use equipment just right to make him impenetrable against low level mario.

@@DevilBlackDeath It'd be the same thing. Ridley, in the beginning of Super Metroid, doesn't register damage, just number of hits. So 100 hits with a super missile will be the same as 100 hits with the arm cannon.

@@Suichimo Interesting, I was wondering about the actual technical workings so thanks for the accuracy ! It also pretty much makes sense considering he has specific animations and behaviours for that fight so it not even being the same in-game "actor" or enemy is sensible.

I fought it the first time I saw it. Took like half an hour considering how it took 2 attempts, but it gave the same result as in the video.

I managed to beat the guardian rather easily on my first attempt by reflecting lasers then attacking while it was stunned.

I can actually say that if you used impa with the fight and kept up her clones you can kill it pretty fast I always thought it to be a fun challenge to do to kill the guardian instead of doing everything else. made it so I didn't have to try and figure out zelda's moveset for that damn slate

it doesn't take THAT long, but it definitely is longer than doing it the intended way. still definitely fun though

If you use emulation and a randomizer on the rom it can affect Wally's catching tutorial in hilarious ways if you chose to randomize the tutorial pokemon. Should he get KO'ed you're given the option of sending out another pokemon, of which Wally has none. Saying no ends the fight normally. Saying yes makes the game lose its mind and glitch out hard while attempting to unbreak itself.

@Yellow Mightyena Almost certain he can't crit in that fight. I think any crit after the first hit would KO Ralts, since it spams Growl.

Considering that heavy lobster has its parts blasted off the ship anyway when the engines ignite, it's safe to assume it was destroyed anyway and they just had a second one. Or repaired it, which means they could have repaired the defeated one.

I did the Ridley thing in a few no-damage speedrun attempts. I think the thing being showcased here is the lack of HP Ridley seems subject to. It has to be 100 hits. From anything. The Crocomire thing was someone being really curious. In the data it is separate from the Crocomire body and has 65535 HP or something crazy like that. The body is pushed back by damaging the tongue and falls in the lava when it's fully on the bridge. If the tongue is completely defeated the body just goes back into the lava. If played right you CAN defeat it without powerbombs, it just takes forever as even a charged ice-wave-plasma beam does 450 dmg. Power bombs are way faster since they ignore the body's "protection".

Some games actually had the devs do exactly that. Tales of Destiny (PS1 version) had a hopeless boss fight in Leon Magnus. You can't beat him since his stats are OP for that part of the game. but it is possible to defeat him. Doing so nets you a scene of Rutee mocking him followed by Stahn, Rutee, and Mary taking their place as an infamous group of lens hunters. It's also a non-standard game over. The fight against Squall (Leon) Leonheart in KH1 is supposed to be hopeless, but you can beat him. If you do, you get a neat item later on, though the scene after the fight is more or less the same. Heishin in YuGiOh Forbidden Memories is also unwinnable. His deck is an endgame type with 3k beaters while you're still relying on small fusions of 2000-2100 ATK. He can be beaten, however, but he just rematches you again and again and again until you finally lose to him. He has a quote for when you best him then: "Not bad, boy. But you're wrong if you think I'm beaten!"

There is a kind of similar case in Terraria where there is the an enemy called the Dungeon Guardian that is designed to always kill the player if they try to enter the dungeon without beating the early game boss Skeletron. This Dungeon Guardian enemy has 9999 health and 9999 defense which effectively makes any and all attacks deal 1 damage, and just for good measure the boss does 1000 damage which _usually_ kills you in one hit. This enemy moves insanely fast and is always locked on to the player no matter where they go. If you manage to survive and beat it though, you are rewarded with an exclusive pet that isn't available anywhere else in the game.

That happened to me more than once. The guy failing go catch the pokemon. And he has a special dialogue for that. It says something like "Ohh, i missed it, well, anyways that's the general idea of how's is done. It's easier if you weaken the pokemon first" or something to that effect.

@@floorpanel8749, you are correct. The over world sprite will never be shiny but after selecting your starter and getting into the fight, it is possible.

Another thing about the zigzagoon in ruby or sapphire is that it is possible for you to K O it and nothing happens and the story is normal

Saturos and Mernardi? I think I tried this using a gameshark back with a Gameboy advance SP; and I concur - defeating them makes no notable difference to the game sequence.

I LOVED the original Golden Sun as a kid. Such fun and epic boss fights!! I loved the vivid pixel art of all the sprites too, of the enemies and the attacks each Djinn would have! So fun

@@reneerodriguez7368 for what it was (pixelart-esque), it was very aesthetically pleasing! I loved the little lag that came with some djinni summons (creatures like zephyr and granite). My favourite place was after the Kraken boss fight; throwing lucky coins into the fountain and competing in the tournament was so fun!

@@taemien9219 Because this is wrong. Landing 100 hits without going below 30 energy only causes Ridley to drop the Metroid, to which he will then pick it back up and fly away like normal. Succeeding in this also alters the first boss fights pattern, or so ive heard.

@TRUE_STRIKER9001 that's why "won" is in quotes. You completed the fight successfully, but since the plot still needs to happen it plays a different cutscene that shows that you accomplished something but doesn't change the plot at all. Sekiro does the same thing.

the bit about there being no cheats is just wrong, i've used them to beat the battle royale as ratatta a few years ago, iirc it both triggered the normal cutscene and activated the next area

There's a video from two years ago showing it's possible with cheats, actually. Just look up Pokémon rumble with rattata

Correct! By using one of the gitched beams, I think it's the Space-time beam, but I'm not a SM glitch expert, you can pretty easily do this fight with all collectible items maxed except for Missiles, which the opening cutscenes will cause to be deleted from your inventory. While the extra weapons won't help, the extra life can help an inexperienced player survive long enough to "beat" Ridley. I awlays aim for beating Ridley at the start of my personal challenge speedruns, despite losing time I could save by just taking damage quickly. Ditto for saving the animals and filing in every square of the map. Since I'm nowhere near competitive levels of skill, I prefer taking the time losses in exchange for "true" 100% completion.

Right you are. Thank you for saying that. I too have defeated Ridley that first time without cheating by just dodging his attacks and pelting him with power beam. And yes, he still takes off but not before fumbling with the Metroid cannister.

Doesn't Ridley just have invincibility at this point in the game? Even if you cheated in an infinitely powerful attack, you couldn't defeat him.

@@Videogamer-555 he doesn't really has health, just some conditions. -if samus has less than 30 energy, leave immediately -if hit a number of times (can't remember how many), drop the metroid and then grab it again and leave. so if you want to just go fast, let ridley hit you, he isn't able to kill you and will escape regardless.

@@erwin101 Yeah, what i remenber is that defeating the 3 Shroobs before UFO kills the Bros, the game still counts up as the battle was won, i'm surprised the devs actually brothered to make some programantion to show up the results screen. 😅 However, after fade out back into gameplay, Mario and Luigi are still shown dead, as if the game still consider they are killed by the 3 Shroobs.

The new games scale XP based on the level difference. So it is likely around level 1 to 5, which yields almost nothing

to what luziferious brought up i never liked level scaling difference concept in xp based games if there is a massive difference in level and therefore difficulty to defeat an opponent there should be a just as much of a reward/xp

i was messing around on an emulator, and it hit me. i was honestly a bit surprised, but i guess it makes sense. Mario should only be able to do 1 damage. but if you do like an all badges or all partners code, it just freaks out. love it.

@@Electro4890 fr. i did a max everything run (full hp, all badges, full bp, etc) cause i wanted to see if the game crashed anywhere because of it. i think if you take partner bombette into koopa bros fortress, you can skip most of the interactions with npc bombette by just blowing up the part of the wall from inside the cell. doesn't crash, but its funny to see.

I believe he is "defeated" after taking 100 hits, regardless of what he is hit with. You just have to not let your health go below 30

Its not that hard considering you don't have to worry about your shield breaking if you're late with the parries. Botw already nearly broke me of parrying too early... thats what I think before practicing again at the forgotten temple.

I was a able to furry rush and deflect beams with Urbosa very consistently. Since my health was never in any particular danger it didn't occur to me at the time that I wasn't supposed to kill it.

I did it more times that way than the intended way, the only times i would do the objective is when i was farming outposts to get beetles to 100% the demo

I think it's either because he's programmed to only take 1 damage from everything or he doesn't actually have HP and is programmed to leave after taking 100 hits regardless of how strong those hits are.
