When we used to Weld galvanized metal we would drink a ton of milk to help alleviate that problem it definitely helped but it didn’t get rid of the problem yeah that was back before you had to wear all sorts of gear when you did everything and that wasn’t that long ago I’m not that old

@@zathrael You're right though ignorance is bliss I guess. If you get exposed a handful of times it might not have any effect on you. It all comes down to what your genetic predisposition is. In my family we have high instances of lung cancer. Us having little bitch lungs means we should be more careful, in my humble opinion of course.

No way. You need a lot of zinc to get fine fever at least in my experience. I’ve welded and plasma cut large galvanize pipe without protection for 8 hours and been totally fine. And I was breathing that stuff hard.

@@bishoppope2921 yeah I said long term. Lots of things will kill when to much is inhaled. I worked at a company that welded galvanized and many of the guys regularly got sick before we got ventilators but it’s extremely hard to overexpose yourself.

I used to work with zinc quite often for melting and creating art, all the smoke is ZnO or Zinc Oxide. If you work with zinc often enough, make sure to work in a well ventilated area, and/or with a fan / respirator.

actually, it's fine since the current flows through a path of least resistance, the nail in this case. And he didn't say what the voltage is or whether it's AC or DC, since you can have huge currents at low voltage, depending on the source.

You step the voltage down. 220v at 32 AMPs is the same as 70v at 100Amp and the same as 7v at 1000Amp.

Yeah, i took a welding class in highschool and we would get galvanized pipe to work with. If you welded on it long enough it would start glowing white, then green. Cool stuff. Dont breathe it in

You should do this again, remove the nail right before the coating starts exploding everywhere, and then load it into a nail gun quickly, and shoot it at something. Hell, rig up a nail gun with these electrodes in it so that it can heat up all the nails before firing. You’d have a molten nail gun.

I love how your needlenose pliers show perfectly how adding resistance in a point will create a longer process to heat up as the heat travels through your needlenose instead of just piling on the nail! So it looks like 2 points meeting 1 instead of the electricity just evenly passing through it.

No its just heating up on either end since those are the points of contact and the middle heats up slower since the pliers are a heatsink

Just make sure you hold your breath! I've been told you shouldn't heat up galvanized metal because the gas released by the zinc plating is toxic.

As a carpenter my dad only uses galvanized nails and screws cause he’s extra like that. But after seeing this makes me wonder if we should be using less conductive material. I mean after 1k amps and it still took a sec to get red put me at ease just a little.
