Thank you SO much for this video! I was stranded in a bad part of town without any help & your tip was a lifesaver. My 2017 F-350 doesn’t have the same little key slot as the truck in the demonstration, but just setting it on the flat part of the left cup holder did the trick. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Nice tip. On my VW Passat there is a spot on the steering column that you hold the key against for the car to sense so the start button works.

Thank you very much. I was wondering about this. I just programed a new fob using the method of using that secret compartment. My fob died on me and I had to leave the truck and go get another battery. If I knew this it would have saved a ton. And thank you ford engineers getting this right.

According to the owners manual you can use that spot to program extra Key FOBs also.

Great video , thank you. Please tell us how you get in the vehicle if the battery of the car dies using the keypad! I routinely lock my keys in the car when going jogging and use the keypad entry. But I'm always afraid if the battery dies on the car suddenly I won't be able to get in!

Is that not the place that you program a new key fob? Don't remember manual telling you that if key fob battery died to drop in spot. Why wouldn't it be in manual or did I miss it. Great info.

take off fob cover. slip a small piece of paper between panic button and contact spot. my escape constantly kept getting pressed in my pocket. now its off.

Say you're out fishing and you have the key in your pocket and the boat flips submerging the key can you still use that feature? (And obviously using the manual key to unlock the car to get into it so you could put it there.)

we have a 04 jeep Cherokee we have had problems with it ever since the battery in the little remote that comes with the key to start the ignition the battery on the remote died a while back.

Is there a way to upgrade to the keyless Fob? I have a 2013 F-150 lariat with the standard key along with remote start. Though, my mother’s 2011 Ford Edge has the full keyless fob with passive unlock. I was wondering if it’s possible to upgrade to the full keyless job because it’s nice that the doors Auto Unlock when you walk near them.

Mitchell, this brings up another question… what if the truck battery itself dies? my physical key is only for the ignition, console lid lock and lock for lowering the spare tire. 2016 F150 5L 4WD SC

And according to the service tec at my local dealership, ANY Ford key fob from that year/model will start the truck if dropped into that slot. I've not been able to get a matching fob to test it out... but that's a pretty crud design if it's true.

So in the S550 mustang, that little compartment to the left of the steering wheel that's speculated to be for glasses, is that the secret key fob space for when the battery dies?

Negative. It is under the cup holder on the S550s. Just gotta remove the rubber covering on the bottom of it

On the Toyota Prius 2010 model to atleast the 2015 model all you have to do if the fob dies is put the fob up to the power button and push the brake peddle then push the button and it starts. what happened if that little compartment is full of your stuff and then you have to remove all your belongings just to put that Fob in the hole? That just seems like a huge pain to me...

I hate key fobs. Absolutely hate em', hate em' hate em".... But all manufacturers are using them now. Imagine my surprise and excitement when I discovered that the F-150 XL with the STX package takes a real ACTUAL key! Woooooo Hoooooo!

Does your Escape have push button start? This is for the push button start vehicles, and each one will have a place somewhere inside the vehicle for that.

Jason Probably a built in chip like is in programed keys. The truck will only detect the programed chip in THAT fob.

I know on Nissans you Push the start button with the key fob and it transmits enough electrical current to the key fob to start the car/truck.

With my Hyundai I use the physical key in the fob, put it into the door to unlock it, then when I am inside I press the start button with the fob that has a unique chip in it that the sensor in the push button reads allowing it to start. If you press the button at least 2 times without the key in range it gives an animation of how to do it.
