SVT since debut has literally been one of the top groups. In like 2017-2020 people used to say EBS (Exo, BTS, and SVT) are the most successful/popular groups and SVT debuted only like 2 years before that point. But they were from a nearly bankrupt company and the members had to learn how to self-produce and choreograph because their company did not have the funds especially with a 13 member group (they still self-produce to this day). Like I remember in their rookie days they didn't even have the in-ears to perform (which is crucial for anyone performing live even while sitting still) and had to use the normal earbuds or go without them at all. Pledis (SVT's company) was actually the first company HYBE acquired when they became established in 2020. At that point SVT were one of the top groups and had established themselves fully in the industry. SVT in 2023 were Number 2 for the Top Global Artist on the IFPI Global chart and Number 1 on the IFPI Global Top 10 album sales chart. In Korea alone they sold 15 million albums in 2023 and won the Album of the year awards. So I don't think they're underrated especially in Korea but I do think kpop fans especially international kpop fans down-play their success in comparison to other groups. They also don't promote in the west so you're probably not going to see like articles and promotion videos in the U.S. often especially if they're not on tour. I think they are kind of slept on but they're also successful af and have been steadily reaching new heights every single year for the past 9 years. Also since they self-produce and saved their company from bankruptcy they're definitely getting their money's worth too unlike a lot of groups who end up tied to bad contracts in the beginning, so they're busy af making music and living their best lives rn.

To make this short, Seventeen are the theatre kids of kpop

I feel like they are really underrated internationally. Tho they are gaining more recognition recently1, especially after joining hybe, more people start to give them attention. I remembered just how little there were seventeen's reaction vid i could find back even then in 2019/2020. They are totally way more people doing reactions on them recently. I already knew them since debut, and it always surprises and delights me just how great performer they are and their songs are all so good. Even at debut, their acting & facial expressions were on point, and their stage are always so fun to watch. Their choreo and dance is so satisfying. But people rarely talk about them overseas. I'd always find it unfortunate that groups like Seventeen, Oh My Girl, ONF, (pledis,wm ent. artists mostly, don't know why, but they have so many talented artists, yet so bad at making them known, Pristin got that early recognition cuz they r from prod101. OMG finally got that boost after Quendom)

If anything, I’d say they’re under-appreciated bc they still are one of the top successful groups in K-pop(also self-produced) and have been successful/popular way before HYBE acquired PLEDIS(SVT’s company) back in 2021. They have long before established a name for themselves and got their company out of bankruptcy. Due to lack of funds, they had no choice but to rely on themselves for pretty much everything(writing, composing, producing, choreographing, etc.) and some were still attending school. Not to mention how tough PLEDIS’ training system was back then😭 I just feel like ppl don’t take them/their success/popularity as seriously as it should and they’re also not a “charity” case that HYBE took in and made famous either(hear that often too)😂🤦🏽‍♀️

17:25 wow I really haven't thought about this but I guess Vernon (the menber you were talking about) kinda does have a slight American accent even when he sings in Korean. He's half American (mother's side) and he was born in NYC but his family moved to Korea when he was around 5yo. His first language was American tho so maybe that's why you're hearing some sort of accent.
