For about four years, I lived and worked in the Seattle area. Except that isn’t the whole story. Today I take you to my old neighborhood and talk about my old job. I also discuss how I support myself living in a van. And we will spend some time in Puyallup and Federal Way while I upgrade my mattress at Fred Meyer and get lunch at Marlene’s Market & Deli.
If you’d like to try my favorite hot sauce, Yellowbird, here’s a Link: www.yellowbird...
Be sure to use my Coupon Code: “StaticCampervan” for 20% off your order. I will earn a small commission on each sale which is a win for both of us. You can save 20% while also helping me earn a little travel money.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

In an effort to help viewers search for the best prices on products that I use, I’ve started an Amazon Influencer link:

I just want you to know I really admire how you live your life. You keep yourself mentally healthy while living in a van. I don't see you experience any depression or anxiety. You deserve a pat on the back. You live by your own rules and are perfectly fine with that.

I like your comment about not passing your old mattress off to some one ..I use to work in a thrift shop and people would try and donate stuff with rat crap ,or super dirty and we would say "we cant take this ' and they would say "poor people would love it " No poor people dont want nasty dirty stuff ,just like any other person

Soooo true!!! People can be so gross. If it’s broken, over used or a super personal item, it’s meant for the dump. Not to mention the folks who have to go through the donations don’t need to have to go through gross stuff either 🤢😷🙄

I have two degrees, but choose to work gig jobs. People judge me and think I’m crazy for doing it, but I don’t care what anyone thinks. I love being able to make my own schedule and take days off whenever I need to. I love the freedom that comes with that. I deal with anxiety and PTSD, so sometimes I need a “mental health break” for a day to two. Not having to ask permission for that or explain my PERSONAL struggles to a boss that doesn’t really give a shit about me…..priceless. I’m hoping to start my vanlife journey relatively soon, and you give me so much inspiration. Thank you for being open and honest with us, and for keeping it REAL. Safe and happy travels, my friend!

So true about job security. I’ve been self-employed for 20 years, ever since my last W-2 job ended, when in 2004 the company owners sold out to a competitor. It was an online retail store, and the entire operation moved from California to Florida. We got three weeks notice-and no severance pay. So I figured, with that kind of security, I may as well just do this on my own. 20 years later, I’m still here, much freer, and happier.

I grew up in the Tacoma/ Puyallup/ Seattle area. I moved to Georgia a few years ago. There used to be grass fields with horses and cows for miles between Seattle and Tacoma but now it is packed full of people. I used to work for the State of Washington at public schools and a juvenile prison but my job got dangerous so I retired early. I work online jobs only now.

Do whatever job makes you happy that's what counts. As long as it pays the bills. I did doordash for over 5 years and it went down hill big time on the pay. So I started teaching myself how to code. So that later on I can switch to coding full time and once in a while I might still do a little doordash and Uber eats on the side.

100%. No job is reliable. That's been my experience as well. Finding a trade you enjoy and working for yourself is probably the most reliable. But then you have marketing and lead generation to get work. So actually, you are correct. Nothing is truly reliable. I'm a dog trainer by trade and I deal with the same stuff. At least I really enjoy what I do and have the best clients on earth because they all love their dogs. May God bless you abundantly and guard you fiercely in all your ways!

It's been in the 90's in Wisconsin for several weeks. Especially difficult if it's humid and doesn't cool down at night for sleeping. I drink Gatorade when really hot and humid. It puts electrolytes into your body. It also comes powdered in a can that you can mix in regular water yourself. Plus I drink over a gallon of water a day. I have difficulty with hot weather also. It rained last night and cooled off some for today. When one door closed another opens. Take care of yourself. Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.

You’re sure right about the job thing. It’s an almost sure bet that businesses change every 10yrs, if not every 5yrs. It’s a rare thing to expect to stay at any job location beyond that. And truth be told, it’ll only get less secure with the changing times. To be honest, in general, I think we’re living in the few remaining years of the Information Age, as we are on the skirts of coming into the AI Age. And, although there are still so many countries and civilizations that have never even seen such simple Technolgies as a microwave, this world is rapidly changing. To me, this is why I feel it’s so important to just do your best on a daily basis, and simply enjoy every waking moment…because one thing is for sure, time stops for no one. So, like a broken record…don’t sweat the small stuff. Live and let live. Influence one another in the best way possible, and let bygones be bygones. See life as being too short, and not never ending…cause it will all end sooner than you think✌️🕊

I've never been to the North West of the USA. I live in the UK and I sort of suspect that Washington State has similar weather to the UK. People characterise it as being very rainy, but there are probably a lot of sunny days in Washington State and that is also true of the UK. I wonder if you have done any videos about life in your van on very rainy days (when they do happen). I think I'd enjoy that. I actually enjoy being in motorhomes in rainy weather, I have rented motorhomes in the past for holidays and found myself in rainy weather, but found I quite enjoyed myself. Rain here in the UK is usually not very heavy, so you can still go out and do stuff, but you need a dry place to return to.

I’m originally from a desert so the rain is welcome. I have a couple of videos that are about being in my van in the rain: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/or6Pqa9kvcjen5s.html

So many corporations and sports teams are leaving California and moving to Nevada that Reno and Vegas are growing like crazy, we have lots of warehousing too. Enjoy your summer. 😊

Scott you keep going to all my places! I was born in Tacoma, raised in Puyallup, lived 30 years in Shelton. I know where the Fred Meyer is, used to be called HiHo in the 60's. I picked raspberries for Pichas as a kid, and blueberries for Fazios. Still have family there. Moving back to Shelton soon from Skagit County up north. A l l those warehouses used to be farmland! Kind of sad.

Ok Scott. Great update But! Tacoma is her own bedroom community. Way more impressive than Seattle! And Puyallup leads to hwy 410 and all the best escapes. When you're ready to explore say hi and we take ya round town....

This is a good time to visit the Seattle/Tacoma area. I hope you get a chance to visit Mount Rainier this summer too. It would make a great video. Stay safe. (crime in this area has increased most recently)

I've come to really enjoy your video's in the last few weeks. I have serious mobility issues and learned of your video's thru my hubby, Bob. I'm pretty much shut-in so your video's give me a delightful time getting out and about vicariously thru your video's. Gives me a time-out from my frequent isolation. :) Sharon, in Yakima.
