My kids are 4 and 6 (almost 7). This year I think we are going to start something that my parents did with my brothers and I for as far back as I can remember and it held up until we stopped doing egg hunts in high school. Instead of candy or cheap toys in the eggs, my parents started doing notes. So instead of cash/coins it would have the amount on it. Instead of trinkets, it would have a voucher for a toy or treat up to a certain dollar amount. Some of the notes would have experiences like a night out with mommy or daddy, or the privilege of picking what we would have for dinner. Stuff like that. But they did not come without conditions such as not being able to redeem more than one a week or if your grounded etc.

I always do a bunch of small eggs and 1 large egg for each of our kids this year we chose not to do any chocolate in the small eggs because it just melts but the large eggs I got were big enough to fit 2 cans of play dough a bunch of random candies and a full size bar of each kids favorite chocolate. For my 1 yo niece we did the slightly larger like 2 inch eggs and put finger puppets in them and her jumbo egg has a bubble machine and cheese balls.
