Dude, excellent summary on what to strive for and what to protect against in dev groups. No person lacking these understandings should ever have decision making power over the group. Subscribed.

Everything you mentioned about communication is on point! And growth/ being challenged is really the main thing that makes you interested in the project/job.

To you're part about micro aggressions. During one of my interviews I was told I offended half the team by saying the reason I was leaving my current job was because I had to wear a mask for 8-10 hours while sitting in front of the pc trying to code, and I prefer to breath while I code. So I'm going for a remote position where I can do that. I was told that offended half the developers because they were highly liberal (I had no idea masks were political), and if it wasn't for my friend already with the company to get me an additional interview they would have passed on me for that reason. This stuff is no joke and out of control. Why can't people be adults? ...wait I already know the answer. Carry on :(

I get having an opinion around that, but to actually get offended? That's the cringiest thing I've heard all week.

@@DonTheDeveloper There's definitely something wrong with this generation where they seem to think it's okay to end others careers because of disagreements on opinions. It's a psychosis that I believe stems from childhood traumas. Unfortunately it's become so normalized, I don't have a solution other than to survive in this culture of hyper sensitivity.

One of the things worrying me about transitioning into a career in tech is wokeness and liberalism. I won't last in that environment.

Good chat bud. Appreciating your insights. Looking forward to more follow ups ;) I'm glad you brought up the coffee thing. I myself drink it some, but the obsession with folks, especially developers/photographers showcasing it in their videos is a major pet peeve of mine right now. My moments are way too valuable to be watching creator after creator make/drink coffee! It makes me want to click off and never return.

Hah, yeah developers do love their coffee. I used to be obsessed with it when I was younger. It's too easy to not think about how things you put in your body will affect you 10 years later... until it finally does.

Great insights here. I just graduated from FSA and currently looking for a developer/engineer position as a career changer in his early 30s. This made me feel a lot better about things. Especially the "negative" sides of the career which a lot of other content creators don't address. Your content on this channel is super helpful. And yeah, caffeine is no joke, yall. It is a drug after all. Don't fall too far into that trap...

As a minority, this focus on micro aggressions is annoying. There’s absolutely NO way to live and breathe while pleasing everybody at the same time. Unless it’s egregious, I let it slide. I would hate to be the source of stress for my teammates.
