In today's video, I'm reacting to the video I posted on the day of my gastric bypass surgery (August 30, 2019). In that video I discussed what I was most looking forward to after the surgery and what I hoped to accomplish in my new chapter.

Kara I absolutely loved this reaction style video. I saw the original earlier this year and really enjoyed you reacting to things you said at that time.

This video is LIFE!!!! I am living your before video and feeling it all in my soul! I’m debating bariatric surgery at 52 as a post menopausal, cancer survivor. I’m binging all of your videos as I try to find my path. Thank you for sharing your experiences 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

This is so emotional. I was that girl, too. I was so mean to myself, I pulled at my clothes all the time, I felt like I took up so much space that I was in everyone's way. Ugh, what a way to live! I feel so much more comfortable just existing at a lighter weight.

This video really made me cry at times. I’m so happy you are on this journey. I cannot relate to the specific journey you’re on, but the idea of being mean to ourselves and being so afraid of change… I can relate to that and I have the utmost respect and compassion for you because of how far you’ve come.

I recall what it felt like to be 9 months pregnant at 47. I had about 30 pounds to carry around and it felt really awful. Now that I’ve got back my healthy weight it’s a big relief. I can’t imagine what it would feel like to be trapped in a body that size without any relief. Bless you for sharing such a personal and vulnerable part of yourself.

Hi Kara. I'm having the gastric sleeve surgery on March 7th. I decided to look for some information and experiences online, so I have an idea of what to expect. Seen all the technical medical stuff, but I wanted to hear someones real experience. I was lucky enough to run into Kara C. Your videos were great. This one, in particular, was really great, seeing you interacting with the old you was really interesting. Just want to say thank you for helping me, and I'm sure many others, through this process. By the way you look amazing, keep up the good work.

Hey Kara, I found your channel a couple months ago and love all the beauty content! I have also lost a significant amount of weight (100+ no surgery) and so much of what you speak about in this video resonates with me. Thank you for talking about the real life changes that can happen with weight loss journeys. I really love all your content and look forward to seeing you continue on your journey!

A beautiful reaction video and I love how kind you were to yourself looking back. Wonderful seeing how many of the hopes you had for your future self you have achieved, inspirational to us all. My goal was getting on a plane with no anxiety that the seat belt wouldn’t fit, when that day came I almost shouted out on the plane with joy 😀 so your ride comments really resonated. Loving the new channel, as always thank you for sharing.

Good luck! I had my RNY on December 20th (exactly a week now). That day was such a whirlwind and went so fast. I feel I was very very fortunate thus far - I was walking without pain right after waking up and despite being NPO for the first day; able to tolerate water and other foods with ZERO discomfort the day after. I had and still have zero pain except the largest incision point. It’s been a really positive experience so far and I hope it stays this way.

I'm currently waiting on my date for surgery (yay covid slowing everything down.) The things I'm looking forward to the most is to be able to go back swimming, to be able to run and I'd like to get back on the stem cell donation list. I'm now to heavy to be able to donate.

Loved this video. I totally was in that headspace until I went to therapy. Now, I don't hate myself, I just hate the Fat. I so badly want to do all the sports I did before, to be that person again who is actually living life! Oh can I totally relate to tugging at clothes, Ugh! Trying to hide myself in them... I can't wait until I can wear what ever I want!!! I do not have boobs 😟nope they are big right now because they are all Fat... when I lose weight... they will be gone... about a B cup I'm extremely worried that the skin is massive stretched & it will just hang there 😳 Like 2 deflated balloons ... that would freak me out! Thank you for being so candid always & I can totally relate! We are so mean to ourselves 😟 I am just waiting for the surgeon to call I've been cleared by the dietitian, the internist doctor... surgeon give me date .... I'm sooooo excited! I think he won't call now though until January 😟

So, I’m on the fence because my RNY will be more complicated since I’ve had a previous hiatel hernia repair surgery. 2 surgeons have told me it will be more “complicated “ similar to a revision. On the Facebook bariatric page I’m terrified by some of the horror stories. I’m at 230 now and would be ok with 175 but can’t go down more than that no matter how hard I try. Goal weight is 140. Going thru menopause doesn’t help! Any suggestions? Oh also cannot tell my family because they think it’s way too dangerous. I’m at a crossroad

I have a love/hate with the Baritastic group on FB. There are some truly lovely people there and some that deserve to walk on a carpet made of Lego. I do find that most people tend to share either really good experiences or really bad ones and the majority who just have an average time tend to stay silent. The true horror stories are rare but sound very loud in such a small space. My best advice is to share your concerns with your surgeon. Ask for options and for a clear explanation of what possible complications there may be. Also ask to be referred to a support group for bariatric patients so that you can develop some support systems as your family isn't helpful. It sounds to me that they care a lot about you but don't necessarily understand the risk/reward side of things. Maybe taking your closest family member to an info session might help them better understand?

Hi Kara. Where can I find the best support group(S)? I’m from SK. I’m having a mini gastric bypassed in a month and would like to have the support of others. Any suggestions?

(Answering from my other account because technology is currently besting me.) The only support group I've stuck with is the Baritastic Social Group on Facebook. There are hundreds of members at all different stages, ages, etc and I've encountered very little negativity there. Definitely some food police but it's a very helpful space overall.

They don't really remember me in that body. My son was too young. For my daughter, because I never did activities with her, she remembers more events with her father. It's been almost 5 years now and they both just cheered me on across the finish line of my first half marathon. We do SO much more together as a family now.
