Because their arrogance make them INEPT. They are from RICH families who never experienced the harsh realities of life so they lack life challenging decision making . I am an RN. @@cottagecorecat my mom had recurring chronic bronchitis for years. So they thought it was that or flu or infection. She would phase in and out of better worse better worse with treatments but it was never gone. On recommendation she went to an MD born and trained in India. He recognized her problem in less than 10 minutes interview. She had lung worms. Parasites in her lungs. She was on a farm and had chickens and a hen house. Very dry and dusty inside. Parasite larva are in the dust. It's seen in India plenty but not even acknowledged here in the USA. Maybe now but this was 35-40 years ago. She had to be hospitalized and poisoned. The 'dewormer' only affects them in 1 lifestage. So she had 3 different poisonings to catch all the parasites. Was terrible. She was cured.

The primary care DO who both diagnosed and treated my chronic migraines was a DO, she also diagnosed my thoracic outlet syndrome when no one else took me seriously as a 18 year old female college student presenting with complex and layered neurological pain. I had to drop my music major and quit playing entirely because of the pain and lack of neurological function, and she was the one person that saw that as an enormous red flag to keep looking into my case. She never gave up on me and her persistence is the reason I’ll be going in for a rib resection this year to start playing again (after 4 very long years) and go back to music school. DOs are not lesser doctors in ANY way!

My grandmother swore by going to a DO. I remember her telling me something along the lines of a DO trains a little bit in every field and as they get older and deal with more patience they eventually build on all that knowledge so an older DO was like the king supreme of doctors in her world. A DO is osteopathic, meaning they’re more holistic and have to undergo additional training to learn specific manipulation techniques (200+ hours of training). Most primary care physicians in America are DOs. MDs are physicians that tend to specialize in a particular area (e.g. cardiology, neurology). MDs on average across the board earn slightly more than DOs, but obviously there are major exceptions.

Two different degrees of medicine in the US, MD and DO. Both go through the same education programs covering the same material except DOs get an additional several hundred hours on OMM (osteopathic manipulative medicine, kind of like physical therapy). Historically, DOs have aimed more for primary care, but that trend is rapidly changing. Functionally, there is 0 difference between an MD and a DO in the scope of practice and types of treatment.

MD is the more standard medical degree which stands for Doctor of Medicine. It aims to treat diseases and maintain health with medicine and treatments. @@kaysanmohamed6586 Absolutely true, however I wanted to add that many DO's don't actually care about osteopathy at all, and went to a DO school as they're generally easier to get into. IN AMERICA they do the same book and procedure work, but DO's get more hands-on-body training. DO's can diagnose better with their hands as a result. The extra training also allows them to do some adjustments and some treatments of muscle and other tissues that MD's don't get trained in.
