Another clean easy to understand video from you. I really appreciate that I’ve been trying to find a good QT treatment method. I saw the interview with humblefish last week and was trying to get more details on how he did his. I think I’m gonna do the exact same thing you’re doing. I was doing just observing the fish for 30 days and either Ick or velvet broke out in my QT and killed three of my fish in there. So now I’m going to be treating from the start. Keep all the good videos coming. I am also doing my dream take right now. I am working on my plumbing. It is a 480 gallon 4 x 2 x 8. It’s going to be an anemone /soft coral tank. Of course about 20 to 30 clown fish plus all my other fish.

I’m so glad I have a QT.... I have so much to say with my experience for the last three weeks

If it helps, I have tried have been using almost your exact same methodology and have come across both Copper resistant Ich and Velvet. Performed tank transfer in both situations and that did the trick! Ditched the copper for 5 gallon bucket tank transfer and 30 day + observational QT. Worst part was the copper suppressed the ich just enough that it was near undetectable except for having one fish that was so vulnerable to the Ich he would get a few spot every few days anyway even at almost 3PPM! That was my only clue the copper wasn’t working. Had I not had that one fish to show me, I would have ended up with Ich my system even with this QT process. I was nervous about TTM at first but now it’s my go-to.

As you know I use Seachem Cupramine, General Cure and I also do Furan-2.

Seachem Cupramine is an ionic copper; Copper Power is a chelated copper, this type of copper is gentler on fish.

Dealing with ich right now 😒. I have a hang on filter for my QT tank was just curious what filter media you'll be running while dosing the copper ?

Do you run API General Cure at the same time as copper, or do you use a media to remove the copper first then add API? What do you use to remove API with? How often are you testing the copper level in the tank? What do you do if your ammonia gets high, and you start the API General Cure for 4 days but need to do a water change to bring the ammonia level down?

So you will run GNC with copper? Or you pull all the copper out first before you start using GNC?

Do you worry about ammonia spiking in the QT tank since there's no nitrifying bacteria in there that can survive the medication?

FYI here's what I've learnt when doing medicated quarantine like this: 1) Although ich and velvet are easily treated with copper, the fish definitely become immunosuppressed with this treatment. Other organisms which are normally commensal may start to become parasitic. I've had bacterial infections, Uronema and parasitic nematodes (the last two diagnosed on microscopy) break out after just a fortnight of Copper Power treatment. 2) Another key benefit of Copper Power that you didn't mention is that it can be used safely with Prime with no apparent ill effects. Cupramine on the other hand will be made toxic by Prime. 3) A dose of 2.50ppm sounds unnecessarily high; I wish I had only targeted a concentration of 1.75-2.00ppm, remembering that the treatment dose for ich is >1.5ppm. 4) The metronidazole dose in General Cure or recommended on Metroplex will not treat Uronema or similar "histophagocytic scuticociliates". Research papers from zoos and my testing have shown it requires doses in the range of 25-50mg/L (successful eradication confirmed with microscopy). 5) Metronidazole seems to be well tolerated, and even at high doses I've noticed no changes in the fish. 6) Praziquantel does not treat roundworms, it treats fluke and tapeworm. You'll have to use something like levamisole or fenbendazole for roundworm if they develop white stringy poo or flashing/twitching despite your other treatments. 7) In my opinion you shouldn't start antibiotics like inventoryking recommends during quarantine just in case - only if a bacterial infection develops. The bacterial community plays an important symbiotic role with the organism in the same way as we need our gut flora. Hope this helps someone reading.

I’m pretty sure I watched one of your older videos a few day ago and you said you wouldn’t ever put a fish in copper when it doesn’t have a illness, you said it’s like making a child go through chemotherapy without having cancer? What’s changed your mind on quarantine ? I’m just curious as been following you a long time and just wondered if you had any bad experience with not doing quarantine on fish.

Hopefully your only using the copper when you see signs of parasites or illness. I always quarantine new fish 30-45 days if it looks healthy and is eating then it's off to the tank. If it gets sick or I see parasites then I do a treatment.
