What if Alaska left the United States ?!
The United states will lose around 15% of it’s territory, but just under 1% of it’s population. Also a star on the flag will be deleted.
A bigger loss for the U.S. will be Alaska’s vast amount of natural resources which The united states will have to import from other countries, weakening it’s economy and it’s influence over the world.
Losing Alaska, The United States will also lose it’s military dominance in the Arctic region which Russia will have almost total control of.

Sorry Hawaii but it was America or Japan would have taken you instead. Europe could have but didn't, and wouldn't have done protection during WW2 and such either. So there you go... Also, and I hate to say it, but if Japan had you (or otherwise), that would have given Japan the ability to attack the 48 states, especially on the west coast, causing or opening up the war in the Americas even more.
