Not really. Picard knew the Klingons were there all along, he was trying to reach a diplomatic solution instead so that nobody had to die. But he came prepared, knowing that diplomacy might fail. The Klingons worked as a show of power, sure, but that was only effective because they would make a big difference. It's like "Look, I tried being nice, but I know you'd rather beat me over the head with a stick, so I brought my own stick as well."

@@reubzdubz The tech manuals released by both Paramount and Lucasfilm. Turbolasers and SW energy weapons are comprised of plasma, which is a very high-grade weapon in Trek.

@@legodoc1853 Not when Species 8472 has proven that raw power defeats any adaptive capability the Borg have. The ships that have defeated Borg vessels have the fire power of megaton-level weaponry. The Empire's fleet has gigaton-level firepower. The Borg simply won't be able to adapt; since there will be no combat data to analyze, as their ships will be destroyed in an instant.

Hey! Wrote this on my own but generally your points are valid. However, Thrawn's motivation to join/serve the Empire was still first and foremost the loyalty to his people's interest, to have a stable/better galaxy and a strong ally for them. Thereby Picard questioning why his Federation wasn't considered is included.

@@reubzdubz sorry I thought it was generated. Thrawn's motivation is indeed the interest of the Chiss, but why would Thrawn would discuss this on the bridge on his empire officers and crew. He would be immediately considered suspicious by his own crew

@@reubzdubz I would think the Galactic Empire would view the Federation as a threat, not because of Starfleet itself, but because of the principles and ideals the Federation stands for. Thrawn would recognize that as the primary threat and Starfleet as a secondary threat. Assuming it is post-Dominion War era then the Federation has rebuilt itself, learned a lot of lessons from the war, and its war-building industries are very capable of producing large numbers of ships from what we saw in the first season of Picard seeing Mars had an artificial ring made up of thousands of ships orbiting the planet.

The Federation knows full well what happens to non-warp-capable worlds within Klingon and Romulan space, yet they still interact with these powers. Hell, the Klingons are probably the Federation's greatest allies for most of TNG era Trek. I think they would see the Empire as yet another civilisation in that vein, and would keep their distain to themselves, at least while the Empire keeps to its own space. If it started trying to conquer worlds within Federation space, however, then it would take action.

Picard is the Federation personified, he's a diplomat. I think their conversation will be quite involved with politics again. But there's a lot of hole we can poke in Picard (I haven't watched the nutrek series but I think I know why people will be pissed)

Don't be so sure. Galaxy class ships are not warships. They have schools on board for crying out loud. An Imperial Star Destroyer is a heavy duty capital ship more than twice the length of a Galaxy class. Perhaps a single phasor array is more powerful than a single turbo laser turret, but an ISD has dozens of turbo lasers, not to mention ion cannons. They're meant to go up against similarly armed vessels and come out on top in a direct broadside. I'd wager an ISD can tolerate a significant amount of punishment from a Galaxy class ship. Long enough to deal out more damage than a Galaxy class shik can take.

@@bobbyflynn6352 - Despite lines from Picard in TNG... Starfleet IS a military organization. An atypical military organization... but a military organization nonetheless. And even in the TNG era... the Galaxy Class was classed as an "exploratory cruiser," and was used against factions that were more militaristic than the Federation. Shoot... even a Federation science vessel... a Nebula Class... was owning Cardassian warships (though the class is unknown) in one episode. And the Enterprise often went into plenty of combat situations... or at least situations with the potential for combat... WITH all the kids and schools onboard. They didn't just stop and leave them marooned on a class M planet when Picard was assimilated. And so long as its shields function... the Enterprise D was a very capable ship. For they found ways to modulate their ship's shields to let them withstand being inside the outer layers of a star... something that would likely destroy any Star Wars ship. In this, depending on how draining these modifications were... the Enterprise could probably absorb a fair amount of punishment from a Star Destroyer... or just move around behind it as the ISD has a limited ability to fire at anything behind it... if at all. That's sort of where one of the Duras sisters says in "Generations" "That is a Galaxy Class starship, we are no match for them." They only got around the Enterprise's shields because La Forge was returned with a camera bug in his visor, which for some reason wasn't picked up, and gave the Duras sisters a visual on the Enterprise's shield frequency, thus letting them fire as though they were unshielded. A Star Destroyer in a first contact situation wouldn't get that same advantage and would have to hope that their ion cannons would affect the shields of a Federation ship in the exact same way they would the shields of ships in their own universe... which could be hit and miss, as the Federation's mission to "explore strange new worlds" would likely give them some exposure certain phenomena that would work like a Star Destroyer's ion cannons. And even if they haven't... the Star Destroyer's ion cannons have the same limitations as the turbolasers... Using turrets and pretty much aimed forward.

Hmm sounds possible! But the Federation also means cultural sacrifice in some aspects, which was why the Klingons were a little apprehensive.

Hyperspace travel requires properly mapped out routes, so if the Empire were to invade the Federation they'll have a hard time flying blind, at least at first

@@chrisstetsko5020 biggest difference is that you're still traveling in the same dimension. Which sounds easier? Going in the right direction lightspeed or jumping into another dimension to drop out of another point in your native dimension. Hyperspace requires way more complex calculations. The way TFA handles it breaks the lore a bit.

Unless thrawn finds a wormhole like in deep space 9 with the dominion that opened up to the dimension of the federation. The empire might find itself out classed by the federation when they come out of said wormhole. The enterprise d is a galaxy class ship. It is like the death star but much smaller.

Thrawn is the threat, the Star Destroyer is merely his tool

The feats happened mostly when they were super boosted by some external force tho.
