Joe's Aquatics because at the time Melo was very well known and just came off winning a championship from the drought Syracuse had while Wade wasn’t really given a look at. Believe it or not, Chris Kayman was almost chosen over him. He almost didn’t make it. DWADE even said it himself in an interview, and I like DWADE. Back in 03, Melo was actually a candidate for the #1/#2 spot. You may not like Melo but don’t make up BS like that

This was during the "every European might be the next Dirk" era. Darko was young and the Pistons loved him. He had a not so secret workout with them (including guys on the team) and they fell in love with his game. So many young European players got drafted way too high with way too much pressure and crumbled under the hype

They still would have had Russell Westbrook, KD, Serge Ibaka and Reggie Jackson at the time with all of them continuing to get better as players then you add that they had. I would have liked their chances to probably win the 2013 or 2014 NBA Championship because remember even without James Harden they won 60 games in the regular season but couldn't play to their full potential because Russell Westbrook got hurt in the Playoffs.

not only he would have a ring, but his work ethic especially at defense would have been very different... he got spoiled early at denver and never really changed for the remainder of his career there’s this argument that larry brown would have benched him anyway as a rookie, but remember that the skill comparison is vs. darko milicic... melo would have easily been the 6th man behind rip and prince, or even maybe taking the starting position from prince

No Spurs team would ever, under any circumstance, lose two ships in a row. I could see some of this going the way you think, until that happened. This was a very interesting 'What If' but I do think Larry Brown and Melo WOULD NOT have gelled together, just too much friction there as was shown during the '04 Olympics. I do still think they win the NBA Finals in '04 with Melo having limited playing time as Brown sticks to his core 5 due to chemistry and cohesion. But the assumption of winning again in '05 and '06? Idk, maybe not in '05 maybe in '06. Would have loved to see NBA Eastern Conference Finals matchup between LeBron and Melo in '07, that would have been a classic.

That friction might've never happened had they spent the regular season together first. Either Melo is already used to it and humbled by Brown or Brown trusts Melo's ability due to knowing him better.

@@SwishScopeOfficial Not only that, but there are a lot of good vets on that team. I watched a video that showed that when Chauncy Billups came to the Nuggets, he helped mediate between Melo and coach George Karl. I think the Pistons had really good chemistry and could have shown Melo a better way.
