Daemon Targaryen is a man who has worked endlessly for a seat at his brothers table. As a second son there isn't much place for him in Westeros, but what if decided to make his own away from it?

A marriage between Laena and King Daemon could constitute a Velaryon secession from the Seven Kingdoms, at least by the time the Dance starts. With 3-4 dragons and a massive fleet, the Kingdom of the Narrow Sea could easily conquer Dragonstone, Lys, and perhaps Tarth, then turn east into the Disputed Lands to start building a New Valyria

Volantis, Braavos, Pentos, the Iron Throne, Dorne, and any pirate, sellsail, sellsword, and Rheanyra have a vested interest in that not happening.

@@HighRatKingBenismaybe but the chances of them being able to do that is negligible at best. As long as Viserys rules I doubt he’s going to do anything against his brother and even if he wanted to he doesn’t really have the fleet to take back dragon stone or the Step stones. Especially since Damon has essentially taken every dragon left. The only dragons the crown would have access to is the ones in Kingslandings dragon pit aka Dreamfyre, Sunfyre, and Syrax. Every other dragon is on dragonstone. As for the free cities they probably don’t have the force possible to take the step stones without massive support from all of them, and even then they may just say going to fight Damon and Coryls isn’t worth just forking over the gold to ensure safe travel to Westeros. Dorne is the real tricky one, as they are believed by many to be the ones who control the pirates of the step stones. But as long as Damon is alive I don’t think anyone is forcing him off those islands. The real question is after he dies and if his heir is competent enough to take care of his kingdom.

@@greenknightofwar7024 daemon going out and conquering the step stones is one thing, but leading Driftmark in a secessionist movement and claiming Dragonstone as his own Demesne for a new Kingdom, half of which is formerly property of the Iron Throne? Viserys loved his brother, but he wasn’t a moron. It doesn’t matter if Daemon had all the other unclaimed dragons, they’d have no riders, and even if he found some they’d be inexperienced. The free cities in the books were able to deal a little damage on their own to dragons, add in everyone else? I have little faith they’d hold out.

@@HighRatKingBenis the difference is position and the ability to control the sea. Of which Damon has both. With Caraxes, Vhagar, Seasmoke, Meyles, Vermithor, Silverwing, and the entire Velaryion fleet behind him I highly doubt there is any fleet that could unseat Damon from his Islands. This also includes the position of his kingdom since it’s all islands armies are practically useless without a strong navy to back it up. And fortunately there is no way to combine Westeros fleet to oppose him simply because of choke points in geography. As for the free cities I highly doubt they going to work together to unseat Damon since they were perfectly fine dealing with the pirates, I doubt they want to start a war with dragons simply because they don’t want to pay a toll. Know whether Damon can go about conquering the free cities and expanding his kingdom is another question entirely.

This definitely deserve a Part Two. With Daemon as King in the islands, founding his own kingdom, never compromising Rhaenyra to Alicent. The green kids would be friends with the Strong kids who are legitimate in this scenario. Otto May have an harder time if Alicent and her kids don’t agree with grandfather Otto, especially if Alicent had Helaena married Jace, which is very possible. At best Otto could’ve a cause a scandal and be sent back to Old Town in disgrace. Or be declared a traitor and for his treason, Otto is send to the Night Watch.

I also want a part two! However I disagree that Otto’s scheme would fail. Even if Rhaenyra’s kids are legitimate, there’s still a legal argument that Viserys’ eldest son must succeed him. The Green Council’s coup could still happen if Rhaenyra was on Dragonstone and Harwin at Harrenhal (or with his wife). Then Rhaenyra only has two adult dragons against the Greens’ four. Meanwhile, team Blue has four adult dragons as well, and Daemon might decide to make himself king

@@Charles-In-Charge Your forgetting *why* it would fail. Rhaenyra was at Dragonstone by distancing herself from Alicent and the Green kids after Aemond got his eye cut out, and their friendship deteriorating beyond repair. In this scenario, Rhaenyra & Alicent’s friendship would still remain intact, the kids between Strong & Green would have a closer bond with each other, so Aegon, his mother Alicent, and his siblings, would opposed Otto’s attempts at usurping Rhaenyra’s crown in a coup. So no, Otto would have a more difficult time if Alicent & the children had refused or fight against Otto’s schemes if Alicent & Aegon-II resisted Otto’s attempts.

Daemon might have an easier time building the Stepstones than this. Daemon always took care of the gold cloaks even sending them money when he wasn’t there so they were very loyal to him. After hearing that Daemon is starting his own kingdom a lot of them may abandon their post and bring their families to serve Daemon. This would give him a disciplined, well trained force to protect the Stepstones. Since this will only be a couple years after Daemon was exiled the hold cloaks loyalty to Daemon will be fresh. Then all Daemon would need would be financial backing which he could get from the Valerians and protecting foreign ships to start building infrastructure

What if Viserys only have daughters with Alicent? What if Jace & Helaena married? What if Viserys had Aegon II married Rhaenyra *After* Laenor’s death? What if Rhaenyra was like Jaehaerys The Conciliator? What if Viserys-I made Rhaenys Hand Of The King after Otto’s dismissed/Lyonel’s death? What if Viserys-I made Daemon Hand Of The King after Otto’s dismissed/Lyonel’s death? What if Aegon-III lived longer and made his Daughter Daena hair after the death of his sons?

Unlikely scenario: What if King Viserys did not marry Alicent Hightower or Lena Velaryon but somebody else entirely? I don't know who there are women in Westeros.

Interesting scenario man, I know it's not something you normally do but I'd be interested to see you go more into detail about the building up and alliances of the new step stones kingdom. Not to mention who Daemon would support if a dance was to happen, if at all.

I think if daemon went to hold his own kingdom house valaryon would be absent in Westeros and marry Laena to Daemon Targaryen would likely have power over Tyrosh Myr and Lys as a Valerian Dragon rider. I think this timeline would be the most likely Rhaenyra would be forced to marry Aegon, unifying the throne. Or she might be forced to marry a high lord as there are no rumours

I foresee an even more destructive Dance of the Dragons in the future, with the Strong-Targaryens, Hightower-Targaryens, and Velaryon-Tararyens based off of Dragonstone, Oldtown, and Driftmark. Even a generation or two down the line, there could easily be 30-40 dragons in the Dance, rather than just the dozen or so we got in our timeline.

Yes, I think there is one motive why power in Old Valyria was descentralized among the dragon riding families instead of having a sole monarch like in Targaryen ruled Westeros

Strong Targaryens are sort of screwed unless Syrax, and her hatchlings grow substantially until that point, or their future generations claim the dragons from Dragonstone… On second thought they’re just fine 💀

What if Daemon wants a kingdom for himself. So he takes the Stepstones, some of the gold cloaks join him, kills Rhea Royce anyway, marries Laena, and gets involved in Essos' politics. There are wars and messes there too, and Daemon with Corlys support and two adult dragons would be able to do a lot of damage, not just staying in the Stepstones, but even subjugating some or all of Essos. Daenerys succeeded with 3 baby dragons and basically no army, Daemon would have Vhagar and Caraxes and a powerful ally. He could also have Mysaria be his mistress of whispers, so keeping a ear on Westeros while doing stuff in Essos. Laena may die as in canon, leaving him unwed with the dragon twin girls, but with an army and a kingdom of his own (despite new and fragile), ready to take part in the dance of the dragons (if it happens). He can also chose side freely. If Rhaenyra still has her children "with Leanor", you can have the canon situation but with the new kingdom on the black' side. Or he can side with the Greens: Aemond and Daeron are still unwed dragon riders that can be king consort to Baela if he wants. He can even claim the iron throne for himself, or stay neutral and wait for the winner.

He did. If you mean Damon never says "heir for a day" then Damon would only be presumptive heir until Aegon's birth.

King Daemon targaryen frist of his name a what if idea that deserves a series like the what if with Maegor the bronze dragon. What if lord commander Westerling killed cole and the greens in the small council chamber, because let not forget he was Rhaenyra bodyguard for most of her young life and in my opinion a second father figue to her, and he also knows that Viserys didn't just name but whated Rhaenyra to take the throne after him, and given what he has seen and heard in the chamber decides to end the threat before it starts I can picture him saying this after he take off he white cloak. Westerling "You all seem to forget I was Rhaenyra shield for a long time and I've never stopped being, im sorry Alicent ill make sure it will be quick" Before he draws his sword.

What if Princess Rhenys got her will and Leonor Velaryon did not marry Rhaenyra? I could see this go 3 ways Rhaenyra marries Prince Daemon. Rhaenyra could still develop an affair with Harwin Strong and they would marry. It is still not too late to engage Rhaenyra to half-brother Aegon. Unlikely scenario: What if Targeryens disappeared by not having babies? What if... King Viserys did not remarry after the death of Queen Aemma. Prince Daemon had a decent marriage with Rhea Royce. According to book readers, Rhea Royce is unable to have children. Rhaenyra still marries Leonor Velaryon who is unable to father children. This time Rhaenyra does not have any children during her first marriage. Love for algorithms. ❤
