I think one of the most needless fates in TV is Dale in The Walking Dead. In this video I ask the question of what if Dale survived and breakdown the entire story of The Walking Dead from the moment he left on the farm all the way to season 4 and give Dale the story that I think he was always meant to have and always deserved. While I would love if Dale made it to The Walking Dead season 11 where Rick Grimes returns and teases the new Walking Dead spin off shows such as the Rick Grimes and Michonne show, The Ones Who Live, this is the most fitting story I think he was meant to get before he decided to leave.

Dale said it himself "I may not have what it takes to last for long, but that's ok. At least I can say that when the world went to shit I didn't let it take me down with it." Dale was heavily rooted in his values, and he stood unshaken until the end.

If Hershel takes T-Dog's death, doesnt that mean during the sickness more people could have died? Maybe even Glenn? Cus Hershel was the main reason some of them survived and Dale isnt a doc

Dale's death was perfectly timed imo. In season 2 our group went from humans to survivors who'd do what's necessary to survive. For a long time Shane represented this cruel survivor and Dale was the fair and good but vulnerable moral compass. You couldn't know which one would win. Does this broken world change us or can we stay ourselves? By the end of the season Rick had to kill his best friend and other people too. This answered the question. Dale was the moral compass who choose to stay human. His death was the last milestone that finalised where this was going. He had to die or go with the stream and become someone else which we know would've been out of character. His death brought a darker tone as well as helped the story progress.

I’ve watched all 11 seasons of TWD 5 times since 2019 which is like 1k+ hours i believe. Dale is definitely in the top 10 of my favorite characters from the entire show.

If each of the 177 episodes were approximately 45 minutes long, then that's 7,965 minutes or 133 hrs! And I can't even begin to imagine how many times I've watched the entire show, every episode lol. And of course, that doesn't include FTWD, TWB, Tales of TWD, and webisodes. It's pretty crazy how much time us fans have invested in TWD universe ❤

I think Hershel wouldve died on the farm. But I think Tyreese would die in his place (like Tyreese dies in the comics) but Dale i think Dale would die in Tyreese's place i think he wouldve adopted Lizzie and Mika alongside Carol. After he is bitten As he gives up. Not wanting to live in a world like this. He sees Andrea alongside everyone else important to him (Maybe his wife Irma ideally for me) and then as he tells Bob to turn off the radio he dies. But I like this outcome too

I don't know if this is true but I think originally that Hershel was going to get Dale's death in S2 before Jeffrey left because of what happened with Frank Darabont. Another what if is what if Dale in the show got his comic death. This was a really good video though and it does fit for this what if story.

You're partly correct about Hershel. It was originally planned that Randall would kill Hershel (while trying to escape.) However, the showrunner (Mazzara) thought that it was a gratuitous death, that wasn't needed at that point. He never did confirm whether Dale's death saved Hershel.

He was too reasonable for the world the show depicts. He was beginning to become a liability to the group because civilized reactions just won't work in that scenario. So, he had to either die or something would have had to happen to harden him to the reality he was in, or he would have had to leave. Maybe the Terminus experience would have done it. That would do it if anything would.

If she had itd be really hard to figure out who shed be. Her death in the main series was important character development especially for Carol and Daryl. Not to mention the Greene family. On top of that we are talking about SO much more screentime and character development for her then she ever got previously, Season 2 Carl and S7 Carl are night and day different characters for example

I’ve been recently rewatching the walking dead and season 2 is still my favorite season. Dale is a big part of that. I think if Dale had been behind walls like at Alexandria, he definitely would’ve survived. He reminds me of Deanna with wanting a civilization and all.

I feel like he had a good death, but it would have been interesting if he'd stayed alive and became part of the group. He had some good interactions with the prison group in the short time he was there, and they definitely could've built on that.

This is an awesome timeline, but knowing gimple and his dialogue writing dale would have been a regular Socrates the whole show only speaking in vague one liners (sort of like morgan) and echoing the same "we are worse than we were" and "keeping our humanity thats a choice" as a dramatic gotcha moment every season finale 😅
