You neglect to mention that if water gets drawn to the equator sinking significant parts of Africa, Australia and South America then that water needs to come from somewhere. Which means significant portions of coast and land get way bigger above and below the equator.

You forgot about relative velocity. If the Earth instantly rotated two fold as fast everyone and everything on Earth would remain the speed they were travelling before acceleration to x2. Everyone would probably instantly die basically
@dimitrisefstratiou4240
@dimitrisefstratiou4240 5 жыл бұрын
But it's impossible for the earth to accelerate instantly. Even if it did, the only danger would be the falling buildings (because smaller objects have little relative velocity, and that wouldn't affect the buildings near the poles because they are moving slower). Not even half of the humans' population would die because of that.

He mentioned that in another video with spin reversal. He's not including that effect. But you're right. People and everything at the equator would appear to be launched suddenly at 1000 mph. At or close to the poles you would be safe. It would be the same effect as if the Earth suddenly stopped spinning, just in the opposite direcrion.

Forgot to mention what would happen if the earth started spinning twice as fast instantaneously. Because of Newton's first law of motion, the earth would start spinning twice as fast but our bodies will still want to travel at the original speed. This is because everything with mass has inertia. As a result of this instantaneous speed difference, most of us would just hit something traveling a thousand MPH faster and we would all die. Thanks physics.

GPS satellites aren't on geostationary orbit. In the case of US GPS it's 20,020 km above sea level (with specific inclination), which means they are faster than Earth rotation, but making rotation faster or slower would not change their functionality at all.

If you have 48 hours a day with the same number of days a week and a year, you get to sleep 8 hours and (let say 1 hour to prepare to work and 1 hour for travel to work) 8 hours work (and 1 hour to travel home), that's a total of 19 hours. You still have 29 hours spare time for yourself. That's why we'll have more time if Earth spins slower.

This video makes many errors. The FIRST thing people would notice, within the first three hours, is a rapid rise in sea levels in the tropic zones and a decrease in sea levels in the arctic zones. Second, people would not adopt a new sleeping schedule. They would still sleep 8 hours. Third, animals would indeed suffer, but only some. Others would benefit. Many would be largely unaffected. Fourth, hurricanes would NOT become insanely stronger. The Coriolis effect is strongest at the poles and non-existent at the equator. So why do hurricanes form near the equator? Simple: HEAT. They're powered by two things. First, the heat of the equatorial waters warmed all summer and second, the cooling northern hemisphere air in the Fall. In fact, cyclonic activity in the southern hemisphere occurs in the Spring. They form in tropical waters, where the temperature is warmest. They tend to travel westward, but will head north in the northern hemisphere when they encounter land, having significantly cooled the surface temperatures around and behind them. The storms will seek the warmer waters. Now, you might think, "Warmer waters are found in the north!" However, both the Gulf Stream as well as similar currents from Vietnam to Japan travel north, carrying warmer equatorial waters north. Thus, cyclonic storms in those regions behave very similar to hurricanes in the Atlantic. The Earth's heat engine would hardly change at all, as you would still have equal radiative heating and cooling. What would change is the duration of heating and cooling periods. Thus, the temperature swings between day and night would be significantly diminished. As substantial precipitation occurs during cooler temperatures, we would also observe significantly increased humidity. Since water vapor is one of the most effective greenhouse gases, many times more so than CO2, we would see significantly increased thermal blanketing. However, with all the additional humidity, we would also see increased cloud cover, thereby reducing radiative heating from the sun. Whether the equilibrium point for a 12-hour rotational period would result in a warmer Earth or a cooler Earth, I honestly don't know. Regardless, since most of this is atmospheric heating due to the increased water vapor, we would have LESS cyclonic activity, not more. You see, it's not merely the warm waters that drive hurricanes, but the combination of warm water AND (coupled with) cooler air during the Fall. The lower the temperature differential the lower the storm potential. In addition to the author being wrong about cyclonic activity, he is also wrong about an equatorial fog. Lower pressure only results in fog during adiabatic (changing) pressure conditions. Once the system has stabilized, the equator would no more be shrouded in fog than are high desert plains, which, despite their high altitude and much lower pressure, are nevertheless, usually void of fog, clouds, rain, and other forms of moisture. Bottom line, looks like this guy got his information from the back of a cereal box. He should have asked a SCIENTIST!

Actually, most cities located in the mountainous region of both Ecuador and Colombia would survive the flood since they are located roughly 2000 meters above sea level (like 6560 ft above sea level). However, the tropical forests of the Coast and Amazon regions would probably sink completely.

Feathertail2205 yeah, but if you think about, earth is perfect to sustain comfortable life. Humans and the way we have choosen to live is what is changing the enviroment of earth to maybe not being 'perfect'
@Feathertail2205
@Feathertail2205 6 жыл бұрын
Captain Thirteen Yeah, you're partly right. It's due to Earth's unique ability to sustain life by posessing necessary things such as water, ozone layer, magnetic field, organic carbon molecules, etc. or else there'd be no possibility of life on Earth for anything, not just humans. But actually, without modern tehnologies, we'd be living in the same conditions as most wild animals that are subjected to bad weather, extreme temperature change, food shortage, territorial aggression, etc.
@BlueFrenzy
@BlueFrenzy 6 жыл бұрын
Isn't it the opposite? Life evolved to adapt to the environment. If the earth were different life would be adapted to that and real life lore would be making a video about "what if earth were rotating slower". So probably the alternate you that lived here would also say "it shows how perfectly designed the earth is". It's not designed; It's the other way around: there is no other possibility. Life is adapted to the planet or it doesn't exist in the planet, hence, no one to ask how badly designed is.
