Alright, let’s face it. Hiruzen isn’t the only one who dropped the ball here. Naruto is just one massive can of shirked responsibility to these folks. Bros done my boy Naruto dirty. Jiraiya also is among the few that really failed to deliver. I mean, better late than never, but he seemed to forget that one time when Minato said “I’m naming my baby after your character and also you’re the godfather now.” I mean, Jiraiya had his reasons. Plenty of reasonable doubt. Perhaps he didn’t know Naruto survived? Maybe he was busy looking for Minato’s murderers. Maybe he just didn’t believe he had it in him to play a father. There are a lot of things with Jiraiya that could explain this. I mean, he had basically already raised three children, with his teachings leading them to what he perceived to be their deaths. All because he believed Nagato to be the child of prophecy. Honestly, they should never have told Jiraiya, because the point of a prophecy is that it comes true whether you do anything about it or not, and in trying to make it happen, you might have unintended side effects, like… I dunno… making a Pain obsessed genocidal maniac who thinks peace through conquest is the only viable option? Regardless of this, Jiraiya and Naruto might as well be nephew and uncle. They’re basically the same person, just in different packaging. Yes, Naruto requires some responsibility to raise, but in the end, Naruto turned out about the same as he would had if Jiraiya had raised him. And if he had, things might have been a little different. Perhaps for the better. So for now, let’s just peek in on a world in which Naruto was raised by Jiraiya.
