Or could it also involve....balancing it properly within your own mix, making sure that nothing within the curve competes with the vocal, adjusting the associated ambience to a different mix and compressing it in a different context in order to retain the same impact?

The long reverb time an huge ambiences are better for slower tempos. In faster songs, drums need more tightness (AJFA). It wouldn't sound that good.

Mind-effin-blowing! It's quite perfect because it's not just about to get the sound of the Black Album, but also get the feeling of the song if it was composed for the album. This is nothing but a jewel.

I think the best part of this reimagining is the lack of James' solo and harmonized arpeggios during the interlude. Black Album era 'tallica definitely wouldn't have had that long a melodic break in the middle of a song. While it's personally my favorite part of the original, I think taking out is an accurate choice. To that end, I think you could've cut even more! There isn't a song on the Black Album that is longer than 7 minutes. Most of the songs fall within 4 to 5.5 minutes, so you definitely could've gotten away with more. Maybe cutting the 3rd verse in half or cutting it entirely and going right into the last PCH and CH. Either way, really great job. Production was really great, and you made some really subtle changes in the riffs that added that sense of reframing the song, particular in the verse and prechorus riffs.

This is what makes them so great. Take any song from any of the first 5 albums and swap the sound and mixing and it works. Just incredible.

That's cuz it has the "sound" as if they had the budget to make it the way they wanted it to at the time yet the original sounds angrier to me due to that "classic thrash" sound

I was telling a mate a few weeks ago that there are people doing crazy remakes like this nowadays, and I actually said "like if MOP was on the black album" as a reference not actually knowing that this even existed. Now this shows up in my recommended. Awesome.

I say you need to change the name of this channel into "Metallica Guru" or something. Can't think of anyone with a better understanding of the different phases and productions over the years. Fucking genius and I'd say 100% accurate. It's almost scary how metallica could be sounding.

I love how you really captured the derivative of the song as it would have been written on the Black Album. Most of these type of videos just change the tone and speed but you actually do the structure of it as well.

This actually sounds kinda amazing :D I like whatever you did with drums. I have no idea what's different but they sound heavy af. I always loved TBA's drum sound. And the part from 3:59 is a pure PERFECTION.

Ok. This was AWESOME. I’ve been seeing this in my suggested videos for a bit and skipped over it thinking itd be some daft rendition of what someone played themselves. Wow was I wrong. This is spot on right down to the James Hetfield “yeeaauh” at the beginning, which we didnt hear him do til after the Black Album era, as well as allowing the power chords to ring out more instead of the constant down strokes which is signature of Hetfields guitar work through AJFA. This was a really fun listen. Thanks for making this.

This version really hammers home to me that the snare sound from The Black Album is incredible, BUT you can have too much of a good thing. Excellent work, as usual Mr StateOfMercury

This is so good. The time it took do listen to each album and the knowledge you must have had of each album is very evident. The single-bass pedal parts. The more bluesy solo Instead of the normal crazy complicated one. So good!
