Whenever I feel like I'm wasting m supplies I try to say to myself that the only way to waste art supplies is to not use them to make art For example, making 'bad' art with ink is not a waste, being to scared to use the ink so it dries up is

Alice C-E yes! This is how I’m trying to think now too! I actually “saved” some of my alcohol markers for when I was going to mKe an “epic piece.” Long story short, I recently went back to those markers after a year and they are dried up :( the time to make art is now😆

Im struggling a little with that. And you both got a point here. If the Markers as Fay says, or the ink get dryed up your are losing your opportunity. And if is not something that is wasting away, we can talk about how fast life is... Today you are here, tomorrow (hope i will be :D) you dont know... So make art now, is the only way to not waste your supplies and yourself. Salutes! Pd: sorry for my english!

@@maddybrooker6997 If you don't use your diamonds, they might as well be poop, friend. Try to get using one of your new things at the time. If you have a big pile of all new, expensive supplies, its so easy to get overwhelmed and intimidated, but remember that you can actually chip away at that pile - just because you bought it all at once, you don't have to start using it all at once! I take off the first sheet of paper on an expensive block and cut it into about postcard sized sizes, and they make it easier for me to swatch and try small things and get to know that paper and maybe a new paint without investing many hours in a new, finished piece! I hope you're already going, though! You can do it!

I learned so much from this video. I've been trying to post daily on Instagram and I am realizing that I'm not even learning anything anymore, I stopped drawing traditionally because I want to have a consistent art style or a consistent feed. I'm just making myself suffer, without realizing. I forgot what art means. This video is helping me so much, thank you.

Watching this and realizing this is exactly how I’ve been feeling about my art lately, especially b/c I’ve been trying to build a following on Instagram and share my art more actively. As I’ve noticed that, I’ve been actively trying to stray away from using my phone a lot in general, except for looking for inspiration and kind of moving away from less intentional things, as I saw myself starting to compare too much. Lately I’ve also been trying to find ways to get out of my house, to avoid falling into the trap of being on my phone all day, and I can say it’s definitely been making me feel a bit better even if it still has a rough couple months for me. Going forward I really will try to venture more with supplies to use out of them to the fullest extent I can.

O.k. Here’s the thing- art is subjective. Not one artist (of any type) will ever have 100% approval. It stings when a “hater” gets in the comments but let it go. If you create, you are an artist. If you enjoy your art you are a good artist. Do not carry those “haters” comments around in your “life luggage”. We are so hard on ourselves as it is. I give you so much credit for putting yourself out there to begin with. And you know that all those “perfect “ posts we see everywhere were not perfect from the start. The choice is yours! Carry on! !!!

Some concept that worked for me: everytime you start drawing it happens for the first time. Every new piece of art is the first one. So it would be hard to blame yourself for "bad art". Otherwise when you expect that your experience is rich enough to create "good art" and then you fail, your confidence could be ruined.

Your point about worrying about social media and how your work will be received once you post it (even before you've put medium to surface!) resonates with me so much. Oh gosh, when I started to say put effort into drawing, I was posting it to social media as soon as I finished it. And after a while, like you said, I was worrying about how many people will comment or like it. It seemed good at first, but in the long run I made me miserable 😩 I’ve deleted one of my art accounts and now I hardly post and if I do it’s random stuff and I’m happy with that :D

That's a really good way to look at negative comments. It's a person who's already mad about life just yelling a random mean thing at you because you just happened to be the one standing there, and then they leave and probably go yell another random mean thing at somebody else they don't know. It really has nothing to do with you at all, and it is not a reflection of your talent or your skill level, it's just them needing to be mean to somebody to get negative energy out. Don't take it personally, because it isn't personal, because that person does not know you. ❤️

I'm so glad I saved this video to watch later. I just want to say that I really, really adore you. You are like me but just older and more experienced. It sounds odd but when I watch your videos I feel like I come to old friend, or aunt when I'm down. After every video I feel more motivated and like someone patted my head. It's warm. And I remember what brought me to your channel. There was one video that I don't remember at all but i remembered your calm voice and this warm feeling from your channel and just you. Right now, I am again in my art block time when I want to make art but I can't feel it. And just like you, my mental state really impact on my creativity. And it sucks. I started curing my depression and I feel like when I take medication it also takes the feelings that inspired me to make something.. It's wrong.. I mostly feel irritated by not being able to focus just for 5 minutes to make some art. But it hurts when a peace lacks emotion. So I start to avoid being disappointed with myself. It's weird because it happens every year before summer. Anyway.. I glad that you make that kind of videos. These word means a lot to me. I'll try to not be so hard on myself. Thank you so much for being here, being yourself and being in this art community. Edit: I and really love how the painting turned out in the end! Sometimes it happens to me too and it feels so good to make things up.

your story about how you got started, and how you were a science major is so similar to mine, I was a science major but then switched to art because it was just more of a passion to me. it was always a career option to me but I chose science over it just to make the people around me proud but I can still do that with the art I create. I can’t wait to become an art teacher and support the kids who have the same passion as I did/do

This is such an important message. Art making needs to be a private experience that we choose to share with others, ESPECIALLY when we are just starting out. I have been painting for over 40 years, I have an art degree and I teach watercolor, and I still make paintings that I don't like, but I learn from them. I'v you aren't allowed to make "bad" art, then you will never be able to make "good" art. You need to be present with the whole experience to grow. That is already very difficult to do in private.

Your advice for approaching art as an experiment is super helpful! It’s a lot less stressful that way and it gives you a chance to learn new concepts or techniques without expecting everything to be your magnum opus.

Watching this video and reading the comments is making me feel so relief, I have been struggling on my personal life and it has affected my art, so much that just this week I decided to stay away from uploading my art on social media, so this video came into my life just in time ♡

Am I the only one who just gets super excited and hyped about shadows, colours and values on portraits?? Like, when she added that first, harsh shadow for the nose all I was thinking was "YES! It looks so good omg 😭-"

I love what you said about separating the creating of art from the sharing of art.. I’ve fallen into that trap sooo many times and you’re right, making ‘bad Art’ is how we learn and grow .. so you’re video was a great reminder to me and something I will continue to work on! 💜

I love your channel because you dont have an annoying loud voice, its very relaxing and your art is beautiful. On a rainy day I like to fall asleep watching your videos

This subject is just what I needed . Painting practice is an intimate relationship between me , my mind and my watercolor paper . I’ve got to stop posting on IG or Sketchy seeking validation of every piece I make. I need to paint just for ME!! Thank You!!!!

When I watch you paint I am amazed at how the placement of a single stroke can bring something to life or give it amazing depth. It is wonderful. I am brand new to art (and I do a very childish type of art - doodling), but am transported when I watch your talent create something like this. Thank you so much for sharing. I really loved this painting and the light you were striving for in the face really seemed to be there when I looked at it.

I just use Instagram as a way to sorta chronicle my art journey. I do sometimes promote my art channel there but I tend not to even look at the numbers on Instagram at all. Its a convenient place to post my work cuz it auto posts to my Facebook page and Twitter. If people like it, that's really great and feels good, but you're right, sometimes the social aspect can really stunt the artistic expression. Sometimes I just doodle and paint and don't even think about if I'll post it or not. It is truly freeing especially because I feel like i do improve much more that way.

Interesting topics for this video. I saw it cross my feed a couple times, but when I clicked on links before talking about bad art I always regretted it by the end. But I decided to give in and I'm glad I did. My friend forced me to make an Instagram account a couple months back, but so far I have not posted a single post. I am very uncomfortable with people seeing my art and the idea of having people judge it, especially through the internet, gives me anxiety like crazy. So I have decided to keep it for myself and just enjoy other people their work instead.

This really eased up a lot of the anxiety I've been having with art lately. About being scared to make bad pieces and not use art supplies and being afraid to use them because I'll ruin them. I was trying Gouache yesterday for the first time and the piece turned out horrible. It was ugly. But in the end I started to get the hang of what the consistency felt like because I was determined to learn something from the failure. So I'm glad that you're putting it into words and getting that message out there.

This video helped me so much and I actually learnt a lot from this. I’ve been in a bit of a rut with my art since the *what shall not be named* happened but I just want to say thank you you’ve inspired me to work through my “bad art” phase.

This was really validating. You talked about alot of the same issues and thought processes that I have, so it's good to know I'm not alone. Gonna save this one so I can hear your words again later :)

I did not realize you were so young! You speak and act in such a mature way. Amazing that you have been painting just 3 years as well. You have great confidence and presence and I hope to someday gain that and I am much older than you. Your art is also interesting, creative, and often beautiful. I don't see your post on Instagram much even though I follow you (but I follow so many artists) I will seek out your post, especially knowing that they may possibly not be there much longer! Thank you for your emotional and intellectual honesty and for sharing yourself and your journey with us. You are a great inspiration to me, and many apparently!

I stopped watching halfway through because your entire talk about making bad art and not being afraid to experiment hit me hard. I've been so frustrated with my art lately but never feel like I have time to sit down and improve. So, I'll be right back but I'm gonna go check out some art techniques I've been meaning to learn. ♥️ Thank you for the kick in the pants!
