That final act makes it all worth it. Was deeply entertained. Just fucking yoda going "yeah sure I am supposed to be here" with yoda giggling away seeing star destroyers blow up. Crashing a death star into a planet. I think it lives up to the potential that yoda proposed in that second film. Yoda was cool in that movie because he was so powerful, but he was just a goofy little green alien, and he never once light up a lightsaber ever. He proposed this fascinating new depth to jedi, thar lives both in sync with obi wan and VASTLY in contrast to him. Yoda was cheeky, hand a sense of humour but was also filled with worldly wisdom. He spoke in riddles and metaphors and yet his meanings were never unclear.

One of the things that's difficult to watch with the original cut of the hut scene is Alec improvising the dialogue and Hamill respond with the script as written. I can understand why Mark finds it difficult to watch himself in that movie.

Since the last time Jason was on the show (I'm counting the Elseworld's Exchange episode), I have watched 5 episodes of TOS and three and a half seasons of TNG. Thanks to the passion Sal and Jason showed in that episode of EE, I gave TOS a shot and decided it wasn't for me. About a year after that, I watched the first episode of TNG and I instantly knew it was the one for me. I really enjoyed the first two seasons even though they had a lot of problems. Since I'm not that big of a Trekkie, I don't care how many times Picard breaks the Prime Directive. It feels like artificial drama, if anything. It is wild that Barclay wasn't immediately section 8'd. That's why I enjoy the crew so much. Any normal platoon or squad would probably send Barclay away instead of trying to help him. The Enterprise tries to actually aid him. They understand that Barclay has a problem and attempt to help him, which is wonderful. They are not willing to throw him away and move on. Maybe in the 24th century, Veterans Affairs is still bad and they don't want him to deal with that. La Forge falling in love with the ship is weird though.

I watched an interview recently if Chris Nolan talking to George Lucas and it’s so refreshing to see how self aware George is. He knows his weaknesses and is happy to say when people said his stuff was weird. He showed an original cut of the movie to all his friends and the only one that said it was gonna be a hit was Steven Spielberg. Star Wars is a film that should never have been made or a success, but it truly was Lightning a bottle.

I need another The Maxx episode.

Jordie has a crush that tips into questioning human existence and what is life and can a robot and a human fall in love. Barkley intentionally left a life sized real doll made up of a mop, a broom, two pillows, three rubber gloves, a bucket and a basketball with a picture of Picard's face taped to it out so that the crew would "find it" like "How did that even get there??? It's the strangest thing! Okay now take of your clothes, Data."

R2 is the most pimped out model, taken from the royal yacht and tinkered with by Anakin for decades...if there's a bit of kit he doesnt have I'd be more surprised :P

For the "3P0 and R2 die in the escape pod" change, I could see it having the Death Star become this sort of "mystery weapon" for quite some time, where planets that get a little too uppity just keep having catastrophic "accidents". Some reports of "killer moons" but written off as kooks. Obi-wan starts hearing some of this and just decides "We have no options here. We cannot just wait around. I'm calling an audible." and just KIDNAPS Luke and is taking him to Dagobah RIGHT FRAKING NOW. Like, gives him the basic run down, but in this version we don't really have Luke going after the princess, we don't have dead parental figures. So Luke is kinda down for an adventure but isn't as cleanly cut from his past life. And in this version, maybe they recruit Biggs Darklighter as their pilot instead of Han! They don't have to use a skeevy smuggler to get past the Imperials this time, they're not even on the radar. Just because he IS such a great character, maybe have Han tasked with trying to track down Obi-wan through a confluence of events. Kenobi's name shows up on a flight registration, which pings one of Vader's Google Alerts, he reaches out to Jabba to get some people on it, and Jabba cashes in Han's debt. "Bring me Kenobi, and your debt is cleared". So Han is an OBSTACLE in this version. An almost Zuko like role, and his entire narrative would be chasing this seemingly impossible quest, always just a little bit behind. Having to use more and more shady and/or violent methods to reach his goal. Give this Luke, living Kenobi, AND Yoda a couple years to actually train while Biggs can prove he's a badass all on his own, training and dodging Imperials across the galaxy. They don't just hang out on Dagobah the whole time. And then there's Leia, which I want to do something interesting with: Give her the T2 Sarah Connor treatment. She's just a prisoner, but she's just gotten more and more badass as time goes by. Skip the dark side turn, Vader never even figures it out, and the Emperor simply has no NEED for this because he's got a fraking DEATHSTAR to roll around with. So Leia has just been surviving as a political prisoner in the Empire, counting her days. I'd probably bring it in to a close with the heroes still uniting, but from a VASTLY different perspective. Maybe Luke gets strong enough in the force now to just CONNECT with Leia. And that's his FIRST surprise family reveal this time around. He wants to go save her, but Kenobi and Yoda object, it's too dangerous, he's not ready yet. But Luke ain't having NONE of this shit, after he's already been separated from his Aunt and Uncle and they haven't actually DONE anything to stop the damn Deathstar. Luke just LEAVES, trying to hitch a ride out of town to start figuring out how to rescue Leia. Basically just ASKS Han on pure happenstance if he can fly him. Han attempts to betray him to get to Kenobi, but winds up realizing he's sick of Jabba's shit and helps Luke. They break out Leia, who now looks closer to Vi from Arcane than anything else, and has the skills to match. And so the FIRST encounter Vader has with any of these people, you've got a fairly well trained Jedi Knight Luke, BOUNTY HUNTER Han Solo, and grizzled convict Leia Organa. This would, of course, not be something you could do in one graphic novel. But it'd be a wild adventure to plot out. Like when you miss the beginning plot hook in an RPG and spend the first 20 hours grinding side quests.

If they were to do a book “what if 3-Po and R2 fail” I think that although your idea is cool it’s important to look at the canon events of Luke’s life before the call to action. He wants to go back to school and become an imperial pilot but Owen wouldn’t let him. Maybe Luke actually does become an imperial pilot to fulfill his need for more and then as he gets older his need for more comes back and he ends up fighting his “friends”

43:55 When I was a little kid, I thought that Luke's black costume in _Return_ was the traditional clothing Jedi wear, and that Darth Vader's costume is just the traditional Jedi-wear plus a bunch of life support stuff. Then I saw the prequels (and no, I didn't see them right away), in which the traditional Jedi costume seems to be what Obi Wan and Yoda wear in the original trilogy. I like my idea better because it means that: A. When Luke shows-up to Jabba's palace, he's telling them that he's the real deal. B. It means that Obi Wan and Yoda were trying to NOT call attention to themselves when Luke first meets them.
