The Canadian federal government is working on an impending Clean Electricity Standard which will require all coal and natural gas power generation in Canada to be shut down by 2035, except in exceptional circumstances for natural gas. The problem in Saskatchewan is that on any given day in the winter, when the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine, up to 84 per cent of the power comes from natural gas and coal. Last December, Saskatchewan and Alberta had 7 days with no wind.
