I used to interpret for a doctor that used to say , you should treat the person not the numbers on lab tests. The numbers not always reflect the truth.

This is brilliant. I'm a dance teacher, and this also applies to the arts. You would think that artists like dancers would really know how to listen to their own bodies, and their inner world, and be creative artistically and responsive to their bodies - but I find that it's the biggest thing that I have to teach! Many want to just go to a teacher who simply teaches them their ready made choreography - because then they 'know what to do', and they 'feel like they're dancing' - without ever having had to CREATE anything themselves. That is a huge disservice to the students!

This video has helped me as much as any other - I felt strongly that was true, but it's so nice to hear someone verbalize it.

I resonated with every single word you said. So true. What is right for one person may not be the right thing for another. We are all so different, we all have different wants and needs. Sharing our expertise and guidance is wonderful, but I think people are loosing touch within their own mind and body, by seeking too much guidance and relying on others to tell them what to do, yet they need to draw on their own intuition and dig deep within themselves. A guide is simply that. We need to also rely on ourselves to navigate our journey and learn experiences alone the way. ❤

In the end, we all have to come to our self. Perhaps, your message should be for people to come home to their self. The self-help movement in the U.S. which goes back to at least the 1920’s has been the restatement of Eastern philosophies including Lao Tzu, Confucius, Buddhism, and Yoga (the philosophy and knowledge of Yogis) for commercial purposes. In other words, the commoditization of other people’s ideas. How does a self-help/life coach untangle this moral dilemma? Answer: One could become a licensed counselor or psychotherapist, for instance. But, there’s something more to this. In steering people toward Yogis and to Buddhism, for example, a Westerner must admit how damaging and ill-informed our individualistic/ capitalistic/ materialistic country is...while still earning and living in our country. It is a thin rope to walk, but there are many past and present examples to follow. In seeing how many views and likes this post has, I’m sadly reminded that most people will remain self-chosen ignorant people, as what you have said here is obvious and correct and somewhat risky to say in a country that has made a religion out of the individual and of individual success. You pay a horse trainer to have a dialogue with you which makes their presence ‘additive’, to use your own words. That is, our society is creating individuals who don’t even commune with like-minded and like-hearted people to just dialogue about horses, for instance, unless money is exchanged. And, that’s not a judgment on you or your trainer, but rather a sad byproduct of the way our society trains people in all of its institutions, including schools and colleges. Let me say it this way: the pursuit of material gain including the pursuit of money is diametrically and irreconcilably opposite to spiritual pursuits that require the discovery of one’s pathway, remaining on the pathway, and eventually becoming the pathway.
