I think the most impressive part is that it would only leave a crater of 1km in diameter. There are so many bigger craters caused by asteroids and its just humbling to know how little we as humans are in the universe

It kind of had the opposite effect on me, I thought it'd just kick up a little dust and only affect a very tiny part of the moon, since I'm used to thinking of humans being so small to the point of having no power to affect anything beyond a human scale, but seeing all that would happen was actually a reminder of how scary nuclear weapons really are.

I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me, retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income-generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45

@@aiosquadron Bedrock actually has its own blast resistance level which is used to calculate how powerful of an explosion is needed to break blocks. No normal explosion in the game can break it but a nuclear explosion in the game, relative to the power of TNT, could honestly probably break it.

Alternative metaphor: trying to change the moon’s orbit by nuking it is like trying to move a truck by throwing a bang-snap/snapper* at it. *or whatever you want to call them. They’re maybe 1/2 inch across, wrapped in paper, and go off with a popping/snapping sound when thrown against a hard surface (or otherwise given a kinetic shock, like stomping on one placed on a hard surface).

There's a reason one of the most feasible and damaging weapons humanity will have once space exploration becomes a thing is to just drop large rods of heavily metal from orbit. @@alveolate My science teacher once caught our school on fire demonstrating an experiment of all the stored energy in sugar. Half a soup can of sugar, 2 drops of sulfuric acid, and a scoop of a catalyst he wouldn't name, created a 5 minute long 10-foot high rocket engine. All because he didn't want to do the experiment outside and risk distracting other classes. The following day he avoided burning the ceiling but a hall monitor saw the fire and pulled the alarm in panic.
