Me, being in IT for over 20 years, I've seen a end user actually do this at a company I once worked at. This was back in the days of Windows 95! Due to that, back then, hard drive capacities were so small (i.e. 250 MB, etc...) Hard drive space was always a challenge to maintain. So I made the mistake, back then, to instruct a end user that when they feel their hard drive is running out of space, to delete all the temp files and folders that they are not using so the computer won't crash. Well, unbeknownst to me I never thought a user would delete the Windows folder. I Thought they knew what this folder was for. Unfortunately, they didn't and one day when I was coming into work, my pager (yes, PAGER!) was blowing up. When I got to work, the user told me that the computer wouldn't boot. After scavenging for the Windows boot floppy disks (yes, THAT'S FLOPPY DISKS! LOL) when I got into the command prompt, I noticed the Windows folder was missing. I asked the end user where it went, "SHE" told me that she never used that folder and so she deleted it to gain some more space on the computer, but then the computer blue screen'd on her and crashed! LOL I never made that mistake again on informing end users to delete anything from their computers!! LOL

I think it would be interesting if you removed as much files as possible from the windows while windows is running wait and then recover through the recycling bin to see how it acts.

I feel like if you shut down your virtual computer with the virtual machine program after deleting the entire windows folder that it wouldn't even show a bluescreen and it would just go to a black screen as if the motherboard was fried.

I was dual booting two windows 10 on my alienware laptop, then suddenly I started getting a flashing white screen and when I restarted it did some automatic disk repair and it deleted my windows folder. I switched to my other secondary hdd to boot and it did the same thing. Automatic disk repair and it deleted my entire windows folder

@@Name-sb2in you have to specify the window you are working in. In other words, click on a file inside the window you want to operate in and then do Ctrl+A [or Ctrl+a] to select all

What if you Do you install Windows on a flash drive, and when the computer is running, do you remove the drive (the default drive (C:/) should not be the only new flash drive in the computer)?

• Did you make sure to take ownership of the files before granting write/delete permissions? • If you recycle, then of course it will slow down; it will get very slow as the bin fills with more and more items which it has to keep track of. You should have deleted them instead of recycling. Moreover, if they're recycled instead of deleted, the files still exist and will continue to be used in-memory, so it only _looks_ like they've been deleted. • A real pro would have killed the Explorer and just used the command line to _rd /s /q c:\windows_ 😛 • Did you install Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code in the VM or do they come pre-installed now? 🤨

Here is what I think, windows DOES have a recovery partition in the disk completely different from the so called C: drive. And if the folder is deleted, you most likely will get a error number as soon as you hit the power button (depends on how long it takes to POST from BIOS)

I’ve always been confused about why the critical Windows files are just as easy to get to as any other old file on the computer. Wouldn’t they want to have to folders hidden away or something, so that they can’t be deleted accident or by someone that’s clueless about the importance of those files?

Well you can't actually do anything to the root folders on the C: drive (or wherever windows in is installed), because by default you don't have access to them. And the average idiot won't know how to get access. Also any attempt at making devices more closed is a terrible idea for people who actually know what they're doing. I hate you can't do shit with smartphones because they're so locked down.

you can actually recover your PC from that point. Fom the troubleshoot menu select command prompt and type sfc/scannow if that didn't work go to the command prompt again and run a chkdsk

Also, if you shut down your pc while update will happen nearly same. PC will boot but ALOT of important files will be corrupted, like things you will see instantly 1) Power menj doesn't work 2) Your can't chang wallpaper 3) Sound button doesn't work 4) Parameters don't work.

Ok so 1st ty for confirming I bought a dos laptop and that the seller did uninstall important files when clearing her pc for sale. I was treated with the lovley blue screen of death and as you did all the options to restart I am stuck in a boot loop and nothing works not even command prompt. 2nd what do I do now to fix it ?
