It’s a Paleozoic party! We’re throwing it back 530 million years.
When the Earth woke up from an ice age, the Paleozoic Era began. This era lasted for 289 million years, but you might not even last five minutes in a Paleozoic climate.
The Paleozoic Era was divided into six periods: Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous and Permian. Our Earth gave birth to new animal species and the continents as we know them began to take shape.

@Kim Bratton Well, we did Technically. We came from a wry small marine mammal (since that hasn’t changed). And then, after the Carboniferous period, we were slowly forming and walking (still on 4 legs) as small mammals. We didn’t evolve to actual apes until about 22 million years ago. Then we splintered off into Homo Sapiens.

@@zaynes5094 technically we were creatures called Pikia. Small fish like creatures with a paddle shaped body. while other animals in the ocean where racing to get the best armour, teeth and claws, we would take a slower route, and be the first organisms to develop the first ancestral backbone, that all modern day vertebrae have.

I wouldn't time travel backward just to nosh on life there. The atmosphere must've been largely unbreathable for a couple of billion years? I don't know how we'd survive breathing more oxygen than we have now, especially ranging up to Snowball Earth? Light a match for a kerosene lamp on some tiny islands and whoosh! If we jump forwards to the "future" when dinosaurs ruled the earth, and see T-rex's wearing Stetson hats, wearing chaps & spurs, and riding saddled brontosauri's, i'd just put down my crack pipe.

If you were to live in the Paleozoic Era (about 541 million to 252 million years ago) it would be a very different world from the one we know today. The Paleozoic Era is characterized by the emergence and diversification of many different forms of life, including the first fish, amphibians, and reptiles. The environment would be vastly different as well, with much of the land being covered by swamps and forests, and the climate would be warmer and more humid than it is today. The oxygen levels were also much higher which would have allowed for the evolution of giant insects and arthropods. Living during the Paleozoic era would be a great challenge for humans as we would have to adapt to the different environment and the lack of modern technology. Survival would depend on hunting and gathering for food, and finding shelter. The lack of modern medicine would also pose a significant threat to human health. Additionally, the Paleozoic era was a time of frequent mass extinctions and dramatic changes in the Earth's climate and environment, so living through such events would be a significant challenge. It's important to note that during most of the Paleozoic Era, there were no primates or mammals, and the first land animals were still in the process of evolution, so it would be impossible for a human to live in this era.
@darkglobe406
@darkglobe406 Жыл бұрын
you generalized this time period too much : oxygen levels were not higher throughout the entire paleozoic era : in fact it was mostly lower , vegetation also thrived only in certain eras (you are only describing the conditions within certain specific periods in the paleozoic era - mostly during carboniferous period - even more specific during it´s late pennsylvanian and early permian era = time of giant insects) : for the first 200 million years of the paleozoic era trees did not even exist yet and there were just some simple plants on land at best and the earths surface resembled a post apocalyptic wasteland - there was no material for building a shelter or starting a fire (maybe you could dry some seaweed) - almost all life was underwater in the ordovician period (first land animals only appeared 420 millions years ago in silurian period) the main source/producer of oxygen was still cyanobacteria and the oxygen levels in mid to late ordovician and most of the silurian period (cca from 500 to 400 millions years ago) was around 15-16% = at sea level you would feel like breathing at the top of the 3 km high mountain . while it is true oxygen levels was steadily increasing throughout the carboniferous period between 350-300 million years ago and rised from 20-21% all the way up to 30-31% in the early permian period it lasted only for a (relatively) short period of time and plummeted soon after and bottomed at 16 percent in the late permian within only 50 million years timespan which also contributed to mass extinction level events (along with other things) which ended the entire paleozoic era and even reaching the bottom of 12% in early triassic - only after that slow recovery begun again .
