Although laying in bed for the rest of your life might sound relaxing, it can lead to serious health issues. For one thing, most of your muscles would waste away in six months to a year. You could also develop nasty ulcers called bedsores, which can tear through layers of muscle and tissue and expose your bone!

In case you’re wondering, people that are in a coma have special machines attached to them, keeping their bones, muscle and blood working. Everyday a staff member will come in the room and shake their body for 2+ minutes to make sure the blood is running around their body smoothly.

Good that you did, but also remember that this is a worst case scenario with static conditions (laying on your back, not moving for bathroom etc.). For example, you won't be getting bed ulcers as long as you move around the bed every one or two hours.

Lol i find it funny when people think we don't have to exercise because "oUr anCeStOrS DIdnT hAve tO" and the same goes for "intuitive eating". Our ancestors didn't have to work out or limit their food intake because they went out and hunted and farmed for their food, and because of this prehistoric humans were believed to on *average* have the physique of an Olympic athlete. They didn't just sit around binge watching Netflix all day 😹 humans are not meant to be sedentary or have an endless supply of food within arm's reach, its not natural lol. This being said i haven't personally excercised much in awhile, i did have a job that required that i move around a lot but now that I don't have the same job anymore ive recently had to take up walking and am thinking about jogging and going to the gym. Gotta start taking care of myself while im young, i dont want to loose my mobility lol

I suffer from both generalized fatigue and depression with other ill heath, this unfortunately means a lot of time in bed and I can tell you the most AGGRAVATING thing to hear is "geeze, I wouldove that" because no, no you wouldn't. Days of my life are lost to this, days I would give to be doing ANYTHING other than laying here, watching KZfaq. To simply take a nice walk, or clean my room without having to rest every three to five minutes... To not have to rely on someone else's aid in walking and shopping. Heck, to just stay awake a full day without it being an impossible chore...

Hospital time & so called "rehabs" cause this very effect on 98% of my clients resulting in life threatening debilitation. Creating a therapeutic program to gradually build back a daily routine while not causing stress to a compromised body is the work of homecare therapists. This video is helpful to begin to understand the effects of life disruption from even brief hospital stays. When a person is facing health challenges all the parameters described in the video are accelerated exponentially.

I remember hearing about a friend's mom, who was depressed and locked herself in her house and bed bound. She sent her son, my friend, to live with her divorced husband, his father. And she didn't come out for a few weeks. People thought she died. When the husband couldn't take it any more and went to her house, he went in and saw that she had bed-sore, her skin was getting pus filled boiled and she looked like she was already gone. I still remember the horror as a child.

Most of my muscles are gone, I'm very weak, I never experienced bed sores but it did make my skin worse (breakouts) interesting video, it's quite relatable. I'm glad they got me out of that hotel homeless shelter and into a government subsidized apartment. The room had no furniture other than the bed, and I need back support to sit for any length of time, so after the pandemic hit, I was lying down pretty much all the time except to get food, go to the pharmacy, or take a shower. I gained 30 pounds, but I don't think any of the scary stuff in this video happened to me. I felt uncomfortable lying down just watching it, even though I had just been moving furniture a few hours earlier. I had all my stuff in a storage unit while I was homeless, and when the movers brought it here on Labor Day, they just packed the furniture and boxes into the room any which way, ignoring my instructions altogether. My landlord isn't happy that you can see all the boxes in the window, and I just made it worse even though I opened a lot of space for greater movement.

In 2014 i got a nasty burn on my leg, I needed a skin graft and long story short i spent 26 days in a hospital burn ward, I was able to get up, but it was mostly bed rest, and I couldn't put any weight on my right leg. By the time I started physical therapy, the muscles on my right leg has wasted away to a frightening degree. My calf looked like my forearm... So thin it was almost as disturbing as the burn, and the graft itself (which looked horrifying right after the surgery). My thigh looked fairly normal.
