Same. Cannot for the life of me figure out what’s so great about FAB for other people. Tried the majority of their products and each one was a fail. Couldn’t wait to get the collection out of my life. Ended up using them on my body, and they’re way too expensive to do that. Yeah, the price, too. Really don’t get it. I mean, I do, but I don’t.🤷🏼‍♀️

I totally agree with you. I always read the ingredients list, then I look for those ingredients that I know serve me well, then I look what my favourite skinfluencers say about the product, then I look for other reviews online and the I make a purchase. Even with all this work sometimes I get it right, other times I dont.

Same, this is why everyone is so confused when it takes me like a day or two to come back to them with a recommendation, it just takes a little time. Although it is really frustrating to get it wrong after all the recon you did, it is pretty satisfying to find a new favorite far off the beaten path all by yourself. Treasure hunting vibes?!

I switched from western skin care to Korean earlier this year because I pretty much had given up on finding a skin care routine that didn't left my skin in pain. I never really 100% figured out what was causing it, but my main suspects has always been mainly essential oils, but also fragrance, especially after my skin got burned really bad by an alcohol- and fragrance free toner, which had an ingredient list containing about 90% of essential oils, a couple of years ago. So nowadays I do a quick-ish scan of ingredients lists to make sure I'm not buying a product that contain fragrance, essential oils or anything else put with the sole purpose to make the product smell nice(or dry out my already dry skin), but also to check if the product contain the likes of centella/madecassoside or panthenol(or all three) - the latter is not a must have for me but my skin really do enjoy these ingredients. But other than that I really just make an purchase decision based on reviews I find by googling the product or reviews done by influencers I follow

I have the same issue with Cosrx. I’ve yet to find a product from them that doesn’t irritate my skin in some way. However, I’m someone who religiously looks at ingredient lists because I have frustratingly sensitive/reactive skin and none of the products I’ve chosen from Cosrx have ingredients I haven’t used before, so I think it’s a case of formulation.

It is really crucial to realize that in order to gauge if a specific product might work for your skin and its needs you need to take a multi-faceted approach. I've gotten better at figuring out what product will likely be great for my skin but other times a product that looked great on paper was a deal-breaker purely by its texture. Skincare - like everything - is a learning curve. Thankfully, I did find someone with similar values, skin type and focal points when it comes to skincare ... you. So thanks, Kelly! :)

Your videos have taught me about B5 (panthenol), green tea and cantella, and these things just save my skin every time I breal out, or even stop break outs from happening. My skin is very sensitive and also oily. I use your vidoes to find what is fragrance free since it is the number one thing that can harm my skin. Since I learned how some things are amazing to my skin I try to find them on the list. Sometimes it is a great hit but there were some misses... 🤷‍♀️ I mostly stick to the same products because how sensitive I am.

Hi Kelly I find INCI lists really helpful and it's the first thing I look at when considering buying a product. I have ultra sensitive, very dry, rosacea and eczema prone skin and need to avoid fragrance/essential oils. I also seem to have difficulty with some botanical extracts and am cautious when a product has a lot of them. My sunscreen issues have avobenzone and octybenzone in common, so I try to avoid those filters (I live in the UK). I need a good amount of emollients and occlusives in a moisturiser, so those need to be fairly high on the list. Large amounts of HA plays havoc with my skin in the Scottish climate, so I have to be cautious not to use too many products containing it or in high amounts. All these things I can check on the INCI list and dismiss products immediately if I'm fairly sure won't work for me. After all that it comes down to formulation, as to whether it works, it's kind of meh or doesn't work for me. I don't have a massive budget and the INCI list helps to prevent costly mistakes, although not completely obviously. Overall it's an essential part of my buying decision and is completely necessary for me. As such I have really familiarised myself with the more common ingredients so I know what I'm looking at. I also google unfamiliar ingredients to understand what is in the product prior to purchasing. Patch testing is the other essential part of trying new products for me and samples are a great way to do that. Best wishes.

You've multiple times talked about the Iope Derma Repair Cica Cream, so I wanted to ask you: do you think someone with dehydrated combination skin could use it, or should I rather go for the gel version? Personally, I'm planning on buying the Iope Derma Trouble Emulsion, as it looks very promising. I've seen people layer more ontop, as in the Derma Repair Cica Cream, and since I currently have oily areas (because of dehydration, lack of water), I've become wary of how much products can be for my skin. I've decided, it's either emulsion < cica _cream_ or emulsion < cica _gel_. Which combination would you recommend for my dehydrated combination skin, with some normal-dry areas (U) and oily areas (T)?

Sunscreen is a really tricky one when it comes to irritation and burning. I've also had some real nasty reactions to formulations that should not bother me at all. Keep in mind sometimes your skin can just be irritated and angry by itself without it being related to anything you put on it.

I’ve tried different Neutrogena sunscreens and they all burn especially around the eye area. They burn a good 2-5 minutes too so I wash it off and re-start with my skin care again. Such a waste of products :( I now use them on my neck and body to not waste it. My fave sunscreen now are Skin Aqua, Verdio and Nivea Gel (all J-beauty even the Nivea). I like the Missha Essence suncreen (K-beauty) but when I sweat and it migrates, it stings my eyes :(

speaking of alpha arbutin, I tried the new beauty of joseon glow deep serum. I've never had AA in my skincare routine so this is my first time trying. I have high hopes that it will work on my skin since all of the three works well. unfortunately, after 1 week of use, I had to stop. cos my skin gets irritated and have tiny bumps :( I wonder is it the AA or other ingredients bcos they have this rice bran extract and other extracts that probably react to my sensitive skin. I really can't tell. so yeah just by looking at the ingredient list can't really tell that much bcos formulation is the key

Can they tell the amount of fragrance it it? I bought the cell fusion SPF 50 and fragrance is listed as one ingredient pretty low on the list. However, when I used it the scent was insane, so strong and I could smell it off my face the whole day, much more than my foundations which have multiple fragrance but the scent is overpowering like that.

I feel like the fragrance isn’t that low in the list! Lavender oil is in the middle, above a bunch of nicer, more beneficial ingredients like the antioxidants and ceramides. 😞
@KellyDriscoll
@KellyDriscoll 3 жыл бұрын
I think that kind of goes back to the point of knowing the amount but not how it's being used in the formula. Fragrance is a little different because it's composed of all different kinds of fragrant compounds so just the word fragrance won't tell us much. It could be they used a highly fragrant mix in a small amount. Impossible to know for sure from the ingredient list how strong the fragrance will be.
@lavayuki
@lavayuki 3 жыл бұрын
@@KellyDriscoll Yeah that makes sense, they just wrote "fragrance" and that's it, but it smells like they put at least 10 things in there, especially with the smell lasting all day and also getting onto my makeup brushes, which usually doesn't happen

I am big on reading the ingredients list. I know what ingredients I prefer and not. The other thing ingredients list don't tell you is the pH. Some ingredients are dependent on the correct pH to penetrate the skin i.e L ascorbic acid.

I check the ingredients of any product I'm curious about against a comedogenic list just to be safe, but even that hasn't helped! I did that with the Isntree green tea fresh toner and the aloe soothing toner, and BOTH ended up clogging my pores, as did the I'm From rice toner! I don't have the patience to compare the ingredients in each product, so I guess it's a question of trial and error.
