In this video we discuss four focus areas: PDU Sessions and QoS Flows, Core Network Architecture and Components, Network Functions Virtualization and finally Network Slicing.
This video has been taken from our Introduction to 5G course. This short course is designed to provide a concise synopsis of the key areas associated with the 5G System, with focus on the concepts and drivers, the 5G New Radio and NG-RAN, the end to end system architecture and key procedures associated with registration, PDU sessions and mobility.

The Geo-blocking we see in KZfaq or Spotify is achieved through PCF? I'm really grateful for this and all your content, this is the best channel for a Telecom engineer.
@Mpirical
@Mpirical 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ishu, thanks for your comment! Geoblocking is often carried out by resolving an IP address for a device to a specific network domain, which is why using a VPN can circumvent geoblocking in some cases. Technically, the PCF would have the ability to provide policy decisions for specific IP flows, but in reality it is the actual web content provider like Netflix, KZfaq or Spotify that conducts the blocking.

What is the methodology/order followed to name the interfaces N1, N2, N3, N4 etc. ?
@Mpirical
@Mpirical 2 жыл бұрын
The N element of each reference point designation doesn’t really stand for anything, although historically it could be attributed to “New Radio” or “Next Generation”, depending on who you might be speaking to! In terms of the methodology or order, it’s all governed by the 3GPP and you can find a full list of all the N designations in 3GPP TS 23.501, Clause 4.2.7.

is UDM similar with the HSS function in LTE ?
@Mpirical
@Mpirical 4 жыл бұрын
Yes - similar in that it's the central repository of subscriber information. Note that the UDM will use the UDR for data storage.

Q) if a Device can have 8 Slices. would that be 8 Different PDU sessions ?
@Mpirical
@Mpirical 2 жыл бұрын
Essentially, yes - if a device was utilizing 8 separate network slices, it would require a PDU Session on each slice (PDU sessions cannot span multiple slices).

@@Mpirical mid band 5G that works on FR1 6Ghz
@Mpirical
@Mpirical Жыл бұрын
@@garychadwick8640 5G Midband usually is quoted at supporting 1GHz to 7.125GHz (was originally “1GHz to sub 6GHz”). In terms of 5G Midband deployments and frequency options, there are may at the lower ranges (1.8GHz, 2.1GHz, 2.5GHz, 3.5GHz). However, at the higher end the band n96 is available in North America (5925MHz to 7125MHz), as well as newer global Bands: n102 (5925Mhz to 6425MHz) and n104 (6425MHz to 7125MHz). Currently there are not many deployments or devices supporting these bands, however it is still early days for 5G Standalone Providers and Private 5G solutions.
