Brushless motors are any permanent-magnet motors, switched-reluctance motors, or induction motors that omit the use of commutator and brushes for commutation.
There’s more on this subtopic at: www.motioncontroltips.com/category/drives/servo-drives and from this video’s sponsor at www.electrocraft.com.
Here we consider the motor type that’s usually implied when engineers use the term brushless motor - that of the permanent-magnet design. For more information on this, visit www.motioncontroltips.com/category/motors/brushless.
We also cover other brushless motor designs that don’t have magnets (induction and switched-reluctance) and a few common ways in which brushless motors are driven.
