The meaning for hunters stay the same, but the qualifications to be a hunter change with each chairman, eg when netero died, the new chairman(Cheadle) changed the hunter exam to weed out the good from bad for the expedition, but this seemingly has no effect on hunters who've already passed past exams with different qualifications

Funnily enough, only yesterday, I went through the wiki to study this very topic. However, I was unable to answer my question, which is: Why exactly do hunters exist? Why is it that in this world that Togashi has created, there ended up being a necessity for hunters? I saw someone bring it up as a gripe with the show (they had an issue with it being the main "plot" of hunterxhunter, yet it was not explained) and as much as I see a lot of bad crticism of the show, I didn't have anything to say against this. I don't think it's an issue, neccessarily, but...I wonder if there's any way to know? The closest I could get to an answer of my own was the dark continent itself. Netero was the 12th chairman of the association, implying, obviously, that there were 11 before him. I imagine that whoever the first chairman was managed to discover the dark continent, and created, possibly, both the hunter association and the V5. And then following on from this, the various sneaky expeditions to the dark continent have all been the reason that the association was created to begin with. Perhaps you might explain this in your video about the association, or you may not explain it at all, but I still think it's worth discussing.

One of the primary functions of the Hunter association, as noted by rule number one, is to illicit the primal forces in each and every Hunter candidate. It promotes a mode of operation based on the oldest rules in the book. (Dog eat dog, life eats life, only the strong survive.) Therefore society as a whole experiences this effect in multiple different ways. From simple rumors and myths to entire cultures, civilizations and economies stemming and being brought up potentially through the actions of a single being. It’s only natural that those who have the most influence in this world are those with a strong mind and will. At least, stronger than their opposition. But the one thing they all have in common is their conviction. This is what the association teaches because this is what makes them the strongest. (Or smartest, or most thorough and steadfast.) The beauty is that it’s all in accordance with the law of nature. That primal spirit; the embodiment of life itself. With that doctrine at the forefront, it’s basically impossible to go wrong. Because there will always be a correction of influence where it is needed. For example. Through Netero’s defeat at the hands of Meruem, he loses influence on the HxA and Meruem gained influence. (Perhaps inadvertently but nevertheless.) Wasn’t it Meruem who pointed out, with the help of Komugi, that people are special in their own way and should be given a chance to shine even if they’re not physically the strongest? And wasn’t it decreed by the current head to make the hunter exams more inclusive to a wider range of ability? Funny how that works out. This is all notwithstanding the curses of the dark continent. I’m sure you could find some way to level it all out but I guess that’s just a metaphor for the unknown. Some things are divine or not meant for us to understand. There will always be the chaotic factor. And also, messing with the DC is a quick way for a self correction to happen instantly. That’s nature saying, being so grandiose and cocky as to think you can control the uncontrollable is a path towards destruction. It’s going to change their influence (or if by some miracle they’re able to harness the powers it will set it in stone.) Anyway hope you found something meaningful here. In summary, the HxA promotes influence on society as a whole. Quite secretively also I might add.

Temp Hunters ARE professionally licensed, having passed the Hunter exam and enjoying the same status as any other Hunter. It's just that many Hunters look down on them because they make a relatively "safe" career out of taking jobs from the Association rather than pursuing their own goals.

Problem hunter sounds a bit like Sherlock Holmes being a consulting detective. I imagine it deals with investigation, logistics, and even some negotiation making him one of the least physical hunters although some problems are best dealt with by punching.

We don’t know what type of hunter Hisoka is, but I would guess he is a subtype of blacklist I hunter would call “Strength Hunter.” He lives to hunt strong people, and I think this would officially fall under “blacklist hunter” because the criminal underworld seems to have an unusually large amount of strong people; also his close proximity to criminals means he would be very talented in hunting them down. Secretly tracking and killing most likely nen users also might be seen as very valuable to the hunter association by helping hide the existence of nen from the public.

I personally find the diplomatic immunity thing interesting. I doubt most countries would be willing to allow murder just because someone is motivated. Considering the power level that hunters are in this world, I see it more as a way to save resources not trying to arrest someone so dangerous they'd probably take down entire squadrons

I think the only prerequisite is passing the exam and using nen. You do that and then you do anything you want but you will have all benefits that comes with being a hunter. In this regards both Hisoka and Illumi were hunters before they got excluded by genociding the entirety of Teradain group... But then Illumi basically got high fived on the boat by Zodiacs, it is quite confusing.

I think everyone who's using their power to get to a certain goal is a Hunter even people who don't have a license or can't even use nen like Battera cause he uses his power to get a certain card to help his beloved and the Hunter Association's purpose is giving you the power to hunt. I always thought it was an exceptional mercenary. Another hard title to attain in real life is combat swimmers course where it can go 2yrs with no one passing and if you do it take another 1yr or so just to become operational.

For a comparison there are around 400 ish combat controle specialists in the US military at any given time... 400ish out of the US population vs 600ish hunters out of the world population. The criteria for being a hunter is far harder than the criteria to be one of the most elite special forces in the world.
