The comments were not liking what I was writing. But diesel will run best, but it's expensive. Mix diesel with waste oil and find the right mix to keep clogging minimal. They will run on straight oil but will clog. Start them with a cup of gas on top of the cold oil. Here in California, they delivered smudge pot oil to farmers. It was a mix of oil and diesel or thinner oil. NEVER run these inside a building that can't handle a fire on the ground. They can boil water under the oil and it will look like a plane crash fire when it flies out on fire.

I would highly suggest keeping it at least 10-15 feet away from anything you don't want on fire. We had one blow up on us at the dunes and almost took out two trailers and 3 machines. Burned a few chairs to the ground, covered the rest in oil. They can be relatively safe as long as your fuel source has ZERO water in it and you aren't fiddling with the intake.

Holy moly!!!! Good to know. I’m pretty particular making sure it stays covered (with Smudgepot’s cover) under our overhangs when not in use.

What is the return side pipe for what does it help and is it 90 degrees facing down in fire
@alexjweyer Жыл бұрын
It’s almost like an EGR if you’re familiar with diesels, kinda. Helps it burn cleaner
@dirtcurt15 ай бұрын
It pulls hot exhaust from the pipe and blows it down on the liquid fuel making it vaporize better. It tunes the burn and if it's good it flutters. The tank burns fuel and wants more air than available, the low pressure in the tank sucks exhaust gas from the stack heating the fuel.

How many hours will it run for with one gallon of diesel? And how many hours for a full tank? Thx

I just got one. How do you use it using recycled motor oil. And how do you put it out safely when I'm done. Thank you
@alexjweyer4 ай бұрын
You put the used motor oil in the tank like you would anything else. When done, close the lid and damper

I would not. If you get water in them it will boil under the oil. The oil will blow out of them on fire.

For some reason I'm getting censored talking about gas???? I will try again. It's easy to burn a tank in these at 7-10 gallons a night that's $50 bucks. It got too expensive burning more fuel than it took to get out to the desert in my truck.
@alexjweyer5 ай бұрын
I would highly recommend not putting gas in here. Only diesel is what I use. How much is fuel a gallon by you?
@dirtcurt15 ай бұрын
@@alexjweyer Diesel is currently just under $6 gallon. The reason gas is not that bad in them is evaporation keeps it cool in the tank. Take one in the middle of a field and try it. The best part is the gas runs clean.

@@Blutnase My grandpa had a small one he built back in the late 60s/early 70s. He worked for the county road dept and got used oil for free, pretty sure he built it from scrap parts from work. He used to burn it out at our cattle waterers in the winter to thaw them out (here in southern arkansas). I know plenty of pecan orchards that run them even when I was a kid so they aint unheard of in the south.
