Wonderful. Please keep these history lessons going Alyssia. So important to understanding the instrument and its music. You make it fun. Thank you!

I love the Clementi sonatinas. People seem to overlook pieces like these when they get more advanced, which I don't really understand. Just because someone can do wonderful things with a complex and rich Mozart or Beethoven sonata, and can fly all around the keyboard with some Liszt, doesn't mean the simpler works now need to be evicted from their repertoire. Sometimes it's nice to change it down a little and just go with something lighter. They may enjoy that even more because, by that point, they would be more accomplished and fluid than when they were first ascending the ladder.

Thank you for this explanation. I have bought the book with Sonatinas by Clementi based on your recomendation (books for grade 3). It's probably a bit too difficult for me at the moment, but my goal is to learn Beethoven's Sonatina in G Major Anh.5 by the end of my first year learning piano. Still 2,5 months to go!

I'd be interested in that, particularly a comparison between a prelude, a toccata and a fantasia. They seem to have a similar purpose...

And I have noticed that the themes of the different movements look a bit the same, they keep the same musical ideas, is it correct?
@bikkies
@bikkies 4 жыл бұрын
I would say yes, at least sometimes. Each movement is its own thing and can be played in isolation, but when they have some common ground such as a recurrent theme or rhythm then the sonatina feels more complete.
