I've always seen the apparatuses as Deleuze/Althusser did, as apparatuses of capture (be it ideological or repressive), the control of signs and tools. More interestingly, they're a sophisticated way of articulating Gramsci's cultural hegemony, they're supported by the state, which functions to maintain the body of capital and all its forms/tools, making these apparatuses organic.

Dear Acid Horizon Boys, I stay away from twitter so was wondering if you guys check the KZfaq comment section. I had a suggestion for an episode on Haraway, Braidotti and co. since that is something I feel is right up your aisle. Peas and blessings from New Delhi!

Also, the xenofem and PC music + Acc episode is one of my faves! Hope this channel grows like mad over days to come.

We have a huge backlog of folks to get through; she is definitely one on the list. We will likely do xenofeminism before that.

I really like this channel and I love all of the philosophers that you guys talk about. Deleuze, Bataille, Baudrillard, Foucault, Lyotard - all amazing. I really also appreciate how the culture war dialogue is kept to a minimum; but occasionally it still slips in and it is unfortunate. In this episode you said, “conservatives have been appropriating Agamben” regarding his take on the pandemic and government control during states of emergency. Why wouldn’t you say, “conservatives agree with Agamben on this issue,” or, “Agamben takes a conservative stance on this issue,” or even, “Agamben’s position is seen as more conservative today” ? Not only would all of these phrasings be more respectable, but also probably closer to the truth. The way you have phrased it here sounds phobic and delegitimizing. Thanks for reading my nuanced comment.

This was really great. Thanks for the episode! And true what you said about normalizing power. There is a German discourse analyst named Jürgen Link who built a theory on >normalism< heavily drawn from Foucault, Canguilhem, Castel and critical theory and many more stuff. Check it out. 👌

Thank you, great episode. Would the dispositif be that which constitutes a strata (as a form of capture)?

I think that would be fair definition, or the terms would be comparable.
