=============================
AS-Interface is usually shortened to AS-i, and its full title is Actuator-Sensor Interface. It is a simple networking system for devices found out in the field.
AS-Interface is an intelligent cabling system that is designed to replace the discrete wires linking actuators and sensors with a Programmable Logic Controller or other controlling devices.
One of the benefits of using AS-Interface products is that it uses a simple cable system that is easy to wire and easy to operate.
It is built for simple device exchanges that operate in a Master-Slave system, where a single AS-Interface Master can exchange input and output data with up to 62 AS-Interface Slave devices, with each AS-Interface Slave device being able to transfer up to four inputs and four outputs at any time, either analog or digital.
The cost-saving implications for AS-Interface devices, along with the simplicity for location and wiring benefits means that they are an extremely attractive alternative to more traditional, complex devices.
They are also fast. Very fast. In fact, the response time of a Slave device on an AS-Interface is typically much quicker than a single data acquisition cycle of a PLC.
The transmissions between a Master and a Slave device on an AS-Interface are predefined and cyclic.
There is a simplicity to AS-Interface devices that makes it stand out from the competition.
There is no need to program Master or Slave configurations, and no parameters to set. All that is required is that the device ID is recognized by the AS-Interface Master.
A system built using the AS-Interface typically has three components.
Firstly there is the AS-Interface Master, the head of the network. The AS-Interface Master provides the connection to the higher-level control system.
Next up is the AS-Interface cable. There are two cables required in an AS-Interface system; a yellow cable to carry the power and data to sensors, and a black cable to carry 24 volts to actuators.
Finally, we have a power supply unit.
The unit provides a constant regulated 30 volts DC to supply power to the Master and the Slave devices.
It also works as a data de-coupler.
They can be connected directly to a PLC via an AS-Interface Master in the PLC rack.
Alternatively, they can be part of a larger subsystem and connected to a Programmable Logic Controller via Fieldbus connection, such as Profinet or Profibus.
The range of a typical AS-Interface device is around 100m, or up to 600m with repeaters and extension plugs, making it extremely useful remote locations.
AS-Interface can also be used in safety systems. “ASIsafe”, or “AS-I Safety at Work” is a standard AS-Interface network, but with special ASIsafe components.
An AS-i bus system is TÜV-certified up to Performance Level e, or PLe or Safety Integrity Level 3, or SIL 3.
Then we have AS-i Power 24V. We know that the AS-Interface can carry both power and data on the same cable, so you might be wondering what AS-i Power 24V does differently.

Is that field instruments required AS interface compatibility or either use any converter to make the communication?
@realpars
@realpars 4 жыл бұрын
There are two types of ASi devices: native devices that have the ASi interface built directly into the device so that it can reside directly on the ASi bus, and interface devices to which normal 24VDC devices can be wired and the interface block itself multiplexes the data and resides on the ASi bus. To communicate via ASi bus, the devices connected on the bus must be ASi capable and certified devices.

Do ASI ThinkTop modules have to be addressed beforehand when replacing existing unit or is the address assigned by the network upon replacement?
@realpars
@realpars Жыл бұрын
The ASi address is programmed into the ThinkTop module using the setup pushbuttons on the module. It is always advised to set the node address prior to installation in the field, if possible. For ASi nodes without a setup process at the module, there is a plug-in node programming tool that can be procured from several manufacturers. You will need to have 24VDC power to any ASi module for which you need to set the node address.

Thanks for this video... If we use as_interface network It is necessary to use sensors and actuars have as_i interface capabilities or I can use any sensors? Because I readied the as_i interface manual It says as_i use connectors and the sensors don't reach the slave by as_i wire it use normal wire... Thanks
@DrivewayWorkshop
@DrivewayWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
Derin you can use any digital or analog sensor wired to an IO module, or some have AS-I chips in them. You can aslo put safety devices on AS-I.

Derin, the ASi firmware need to reside either at the sensor or at the I/O block connection. If at the sensor, the sensor can be connected via a passive device to the ASi network. In this case, the ASi firmware at the sensor stores the node number and other configuration data. If the ASi firmware is in an I/O "brick", then the node address resides in the "brick". In this case, the device does not have to support ASi since the communication packet is formed at the I/O brick.

Yeah that's one thing that wasn't shown. You can connect sensors directly on the bus line, but those need to be AS-i compatible. If your sensor doesn't have an AS-i modem in it, you can use an IO slave (like used in the video) to plug it in, since IO slaves only read AS-i telegrams as "okay which output to set or reset and what are the states of my inputs?". Because you won't find AS-i sensors all the time. I had a research project on AS-i once in college and stuff like optical safety barriers always need to use a safety input module for safety purposes. When he said that you can literally snap devices on cables, the animation in the video got it wrong. He showed a connection between an IO slave ans a sensor using an M12 connector. In reality the piercing part is the IO slave daisy-chained to the bus, that uses what here we call a "vampire connector", that indeed pierces the yellow cable.

@realpars
@realpars 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! In an AS-i system, the network configuration only requires the configuration of a node number, unique for each slave device. For Siemens slave devices (active and passive blocks), there is a plug-in address dongle that allows the setting of the node number, so no configuration (other than identifying the ProfibusDP/ASi link device) is required. No EDS, GSD, or EDDL files are required since all AS-i devices use the same data structure (one byte in, one byte out). More info can be found here: cache.industry.siemens.com/dl/files/856/1171856/att_961903/v1/SYH_asi-grundlagen_76_201805231008141616.pdf

Hello everyone, Im try to connect Multiple light beam safety device (MLD510-RT3/A) Asi interface to PLC S7-1200. I use AS-i Master CM 1243-2 and AS-i Data Decoupling Unit DCM 1271 to connect this device. Because Multiple light beam safety device (MLD510-RT3/A) factory slave address =0. To configure i want to change slave address to =1. I want to ask if TIA PORTAL can set the slave address for ASi-Slave Device. Many thanks for any idea,
