Hi Bobb Good to hear from someone who has given theirs more use than me. I genuinely think it's still the best machine on the market after all these years. (Without spending thousands obviously) I will increase my WD40 input👍

Do you have any idea of the running costs per hour?

A tally depends on the pics of electricity, however about £0.60 per hour. Not a lot !

Can the knifes be taken out to be sharpened?

@@JefJanssens no, it's a fixed multiblade rotor. However the anvil can be adjusted to compensate for wear. I'm still using mine and haven't even replaced the, replaceable anvil.

Love the idea of a telescopic axle for moving it around. For me thats the weakest part of the design

Having two handles pull out from the other side, like a wheel barrow, would also improve the stability a lot. Two handles offers way more correcting capabilities than one narrow handle at the top. Having all controls on the same side seems logical indeed. Though it's not that big of a machine to walk around it. I don't agree on the retractable power cord though. In my experience, those things get stuck when they fill up with garden debris, and cause more issues than a loose cord.

Wouldn't worry too much about WD40 contamination as its not advisable but can be consumed as its not oral toxic.

As long as you dont have two trapped hands, the stop button is easily accessible and it should only be self feeding due to gravity. So pulling up or back on the branches should stop any cutting taking place. If your machine genuinely pulls branches in then its not cutting them all the way through (Will produce ribbons rather than chips) If so turn the knob on the side that brings the aluminium shearing plate into closer contact with the blade.👍

turbine cut =TC which is the one I have and more expensive. It has the clever cone shaped blade D is the standard machine with a less effective blade

Mine has not seen to much leaf action beyond fir tree fronds and the leaves still attached to branches. I imagine if you are thinking of feeding it fallen eaves then yes the feed hopper is not really very well suited ad they would not be heavy enough to self feed. I copes with anything still attached to branches and twigs really well though.

That happened to me one too! You have reminded me. I convinced myself it had blown a fuse and then felt foolish when I finally noticed the basket had got heavy and slid DOWNHILL! Thats a top tip for everyone that I missed. Thanks J S

@@ToTheGarage When you put WD-40 into your machine, doesn't it have a negative effect on plastic parts?

@@cunnyfred9562 does it affect dead material like plastic that much? It only removes grease. Can't see how that harms plastic. The cogs though...

I used to have the same problem, and I particularly did not want to position it uphill, because then the blade cone is less successful in getting rid of chipped material inside it, causing it to get clogged up much easier, so I looked for another fix. I eventually ended up drilling two holes in the plastic housing in the front of the machine just above the basket and just inside the metal frame, screwed a small bolt into each with a nut and washer on both sides of the plastic to keep it in place with the bolt head about a centimeter or two above the plastic. Then I also drilled another hole into each of those little 'winglets' in the black part on both sides of the grille in the rear of the machine. I can't see that they serve any purpose other than decorative, but they are pretty sturdy! I then threaded a nice thick length of bungy cord through one of those holes, around the basket on the INSIDE of the metal frame in the front and back to the hole in the other 'winglet,' where I tied a good strong figure 8 knot in the bungy cord before tightening the cord enough to pull it back when I pulled it out, and then I made the same knot at the other end. I'm sure you could also use one of those bungys with the hooks already fitted if you wanted, it just needs to be the right length. When I need to remove the basket to empty it I simply hook the bungy cord over the two bolt heads in front, where it stays until I return the basket to its rightful place and then I unhook the cord and the basket is nice and tight in position once again!

Im self employed as an engineering consultant. I work very hard for a couple of weeks each month and spend the rest of the month spending what I earned on having a nice time with my wife and my cars. Also although the UK is a very expensive place to live. Its filled with car nuts, so parts and tools are not too expensive and british car parts will allways be cheaper over here.

Hi Claudia Rozenbilt✋. I have never had to re sharpen the blades, just the black key as you say. Im genuinely not sponsored in any way by Bosch, but have to say I work this pretty hard several times a year and have never had any issues. When I think of the 3 Micky mouse shredders I owned previously, they were worn. out or broken in 2 years tops.

I have one too, and although I wouldn't say it couldn't do that, I have found that it's at its least successful with very light material. Since the blades are being turned so slowly, there's basically no centrifugal force, and if the material being shredded is so light in weight, it has virtually no momentum to drop out of the blade cone by itself. This machine truly is the best shredder for domestic use that I've come across, but it is intended for garden refuse, which by nature is widely varied in structure, size and moisture content. It needs variety from green leaves to dry branches to be at its most efficient in clearing the blades of shredded material.

Hi Rob. Although its not technically sharpening th blade at all. Its just matching the Aluminium shearing block to the profile of the Blade, The Effect is to sharpen the cut. If you start getting long ribbons of wood in the collection bin because the blade has not cut all the way through, then this is a sign that the blade and the shearing block are no longer mating perfectly.

@@ToTheGarage just bought mine and I’m getting long flattened ribbons on some material. Instruction says no need to sharpen in first use

I found this machine copes better than a previous impact shredder I had with the green stuff. But you are right the woodier the load, the more impressive this machine is

@@ToTheGarage I have owned both. The Bosh feels like a toy in comparison to the Forest Master. I usually put a large basket or my wheelbarrow at the chipping end which captures 95% to 99% of the shredded material.

OK, I've watched a video of someone using that shredder and it certainly looks impressive enough, but since the Forest Master brand is not available here in South Africa it's a moot point, for me, whether it's better than the Bosch or not. I have to say, however, I wonder if it would be as efficient as the Bosch at shredding palm fronds, since all the high-RPM shredders I've used were notoriously bad at shredding anything consisting of a stringy fibre, as palm fronds tend to do. The fibres would get wound around the rotating axle in no time, clogging it and eventually bringing it to a complete stop. This Bosch, on the other hand, will simply chew it up, green or dry, leafy part and all, like it's nobody's business. If it can get through the mouth of the top chute the Bosch will deal with it. But yes, we have several petrol models available here similar in design to this electric Forest Master and if an electric model of the same design should ever become available here I'd probably sell my two current high-RPM shredders and a left kidney to get one of them! I especially love the idea that the entrance chute is so large and that the exit chute comes up so high AND can be directed where you want it!

@@stadleroux No idea about the palm fronds as I never had to shred any of those. I do not think the fibers would be a problem for the Forest Master. What is a potential problem though is wet and mussy materials.
