It's outrageous how many pubs don't look after their cask ales. I had many such experiences both in Cambridge and London. The casks are not vented properly, the beer is not lively, the clarity is bad. If you're a pub lord or pub lady regularly sample your beer and keep it fresh. This is the most important thing and the rest comes after. If the clients drink mostly Guinness or lager it's a confirmation that something's wrong with the cask ales. As someone who is from continental Europe I think British people don't realise what a treasure real ale is: they have a much wider range of flavours, colours and diversity and they don't make you bloated. This cannot be said of European lagers that can barely be distinguished from each other and they all make you gassy.

So many pubs I see have a selection of cask ales but almost everyone is drinking San Miguel or Morretti. I very doubt they’re selling the real ale within 3 days. So that means they’re binning it ? I doubt

Isn''t one aspect of Real Ale, is that it has no preservatives, colourants, emulsifiers, added artificial sugars etc. It is kept in a traditional barrel and has no modern aspects to its creation. Cask ale isn't quite the same. Something could be cask yet not real ale. This blurring of definition, I feel most uncomfortable with because it allows none Reals Ales some of the prestige of real Ales because they are similar but don't meet the full criteria.

Cask conditioned hand pumped cask conditioned dry hopped ale. Nothing remotely close . Nothing! Once you try one you are ruined!
