Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler

Spiritual Unfoldment with John Butler

Күн бұрын

Alex Thomson attended a recent retreat with John Butler and afterwards asked him the question "What is 'Christ' to you?" Here, John grasps the nettle with all it entails, and not only gives a full appreciation of the difference in emphasis between 'Jesus the man' and 'Christ the Anointed One' but even manages a brief lesson in church history. You may even catch the Russian for "Not made by hands." In this video, John unassumingly makes some of his most profound statements ... "In God there is no confusion", ... "There's much safety in not knowing", ... "Find the True Self that lives in the heart of all" and ... "Thinkery, thinkery, thunk." Unmissable.
As Alex was sitting outside he noticed a little flower between the cracks, and this came to him:
Does a flower meditate?
No, it has no mind,
Yet it knows its purpose,
To turn to the light
And bloom,
So that Life itself blooms,
With no thought involved.
Is that not the purpose
Of meditation?
Letting go of thoughts
So that Life itself blooms.
This little flower is my teacher
And my friend
As we sit together
In silence
Turning towards
The Light.
Alex

'Mystic Forbearance - in Russia'. Just over 100 years ago, the Russian Revolution started - man replaced God and the world began to change.
From her homeland convulsed by civil war - like countless others with family uprooted and destroyed, a lost and lonely refugee, Mother was sent to England where, eventually she married and bore 2 children. At the age of 55, I returned to Russia for several years to rediscover my roots and incidentally write the notes which form the basis of my latest book, ‘Mystic Forbearance - in Russia’. This 2nd edition, with additions and corrections replaces the earlier, named ‘Oh, Russia’. It’s a large book of 600 pages, which cover almost every aspect of human existence, facing the great question of how spirit can strengthen to bear an unbearable world. John Butler - 2019

After watching these videos for a couple of months, it inspired me to have a day out in Bakewell to explore the local woods and to try meditating in the church, as it's only an hours drive from my home. At the end of the day, I walked back to my car and to my amazement I looked up, across the road, and saw John sail by on his tricycle; he made a fleeting glance at me and I looked at him and smiled. A special moment and a great ending to my day. It would have been nice to have had a chat with him, but at the end of the day, what needs to be asked when we have these videos? A wealth of knowledge, but simple message nevertheless: 'be present!'

How sad that you found Mr. Butler's atheistic ramblings clear and satisfying. He pointed you 180 degrees away from Christ the King, God incarnate, our perfect sacrifice and propitiation for sin, our prophet, priest and King, the Word made flesh, the true vine, the bread of life, the way, the truth and the life. No one comes unto the Father but through Him. Seek the Lord Jesus in fervent prayer, ask the Father for wisdom, invite the Holy Spirit into your heart. Repent of your sin, and turn to Him. You will be adopted into His eternal family, no longer under His just wrath. I'll pray for you.

@fairweatherfriends. 4 жыл бұрын
God isn’t subject to man’s laws regarding mind or other. Infinite means infinite possibilities. Not to mention logic makes no room for spirit...not that I’ve seen. Get god outta the man made box they put it in. Religion caters to your fear of death while telling you guilt is a virtue. It’s of the devil. Infinite has no edges or corners.
@Liberty_Troll
@Liberty_Troll 4 жыл бұрын
Super Glued Wrong. God is infinite but that does not mean he’s illogical. God cannot stop being God..God cannot sin, God cannot make a rock so heavy that he can’t lift, etc. Logic is the process of God’s mind and, although he exceeds the logic we can fathom, it does not mean that at some point he becomes illogical. I let God be God, whether I let him or not. He is who he is, and you cannot redefine him in order to make him in your image. It’s the unbelievers who put him in a box by suggesting he isn’t who he is. God is not silent...he has spoken in his word to us.
@fairweatherfriends.
@fairweatherfriends. 4 жыл бұрын
zkueker88 I see a vast difference in the logic of God and the logic of man. As to what God can’t do, perhaps he can’t break his own laws, but if he can’t then he is LIMITED. Bound by his own rules sounds more like the finite than the infinite. But all of that is beside the point and just rabbit trails. If you’ve never had an out of body or near death type experience, you can’t possibly fathom how incredibly STRANGE yet comforting the spiritual plane is. I use to put God in the box that religion had made “him” in my mind. But then something happened and I realized neither myself, nor any dogma, had the ability to grasp what God is. The amount of power that he/it/all wields is is so far beyond comprehension, it is mind boggling. Lastly, I find it funny that you mention an “unbeliever” saying what he isn’t is making him an idol. I absolutely agree with you. Yet if you can see that a mere human daring to proclaim what he isn’t is wrong... how can you not see that to proclaim what he is, in such absolute terms, isn’t the same? If he created the universe, then all things come from God, which seems to imply that he is part of all things. He is all. Is that not... logical?

I wished I would have been introduced to spirituality in my life the way John approaches and - in particular - „verbalizes“ it. Though words or let us say: mental concepts like „God“ or „Jesus“ (and considering that in other religions these are named and interpretated differently) often create a polarizing, discriminating missinterpretation. I observe this as a main driver of reluctant atheism as it then manly rejects a too trivial and dogmatic interpretation of „God“ instead of neglecting its presence. Being raised with strong catholic concepts and structures I somehow became „atheist“ myself but wouldn‘t name it as such. Thank you John for your so targetleading words describing a faith beyond words that are stigmatically anchored in peoples brains.

Such a beautiful message, I have never understood the concept of jesus sacrificing himself for our sins. Now It struck me that God is allways sacrificing himself as conciousness taking form, because only in form can there be Evil/suffering and sin. So Christ is staying with us in everything, suffering with everyone and everything. This makes me humble and makes me understand the 7 sins more too... Imagine being gluttonous eating in excess when christ sacrifice himself as the lamb of God so you can eat... the disrespect.. also the Ego being the process of identifying "I am this or that" is imo the original sin because God's presence is "I am" nothing more nothing less. Something strange happened to me a few years ago. It was in the summertime and I had been feeling very low and depressed. Later that afternoon we had a thunderstorm and all of a sudden there was a very big flash and a crack of thunder. It was so loud It was incredible I thought something had been struck by lightning but no. After that huge crack of thunder had complethey gone I felt so safe it was overwhelming. I will never forget just how loud that explosion was.

John Butler is a mystic, not a theologian. He has deep insight, but stays away from the controversies within Christian teaching. Christ identified Himself with the Father. It’s enough for me to recognize that through Him, I see God revealed.

Before he gets started I’ll say my interpretation of Christ , see if it lines up by the way I’m not religious in any sense but I do love spirit . Christ is understanding, knowing / pure being/ salvation/ divine wisdom and pure love. Infinity ♾ peace . Well , the result of all of this would be peace. Let’s see if I got any of this right . I had a realization that at its core the holy bible is true , where it points to which is our divine nature. You have to understand it was written a long time ago so some of the words are hard to digest and well, we live differently now . But the message still stands . What we truly are . It’s you .

There are a lot of philosophies and spiritual teachings you can get from religions outside of Christianity. If you were to pick and choose the small pieces of every religion until you find exactly what you would like to interpret, you could be your best self, being spiritual and not religious.

Just discovered this channel, wonderful content. Since it seems like you're taking questions I have one that I've been thinking about a lot. Say we all meditated a lot or prayed or whatever and became enlightened as it's called, the entire human race, then what? When one becomes enlightened it ends all suffering, it allows one to feel the unity of all things, nothing bothers you anymore. And the first thing you would want to do is teach everyone else how to experience the same thing, and if everyone experienced it life on Earth would become perfect. But then what? I mean, at that point the question "then what?" wouldn't even matter. But is that a good thing? Wouldn't it sort of be like ending existence? When everything is the same it's the same as being everything and nothing. Doesn't the world, time, the laws of physics, the separation all material things experience, and so on, exist for a reason? If the reason is just to go back to where we came from then why have this material existence at all? Enlightenment after all is just living death, it's experiencing death, or a return to the all, while still alive. So why have a material existence at all if ending that material existence is the purpose? I understand that the ego is very bad, I know that the separation we experience is the cause of all suffering, but it's very hard for me to understand why it would exist for no reason at all, or that it's some sort of universal sickness. As for my current working theory, it's that the universe, the all, God, whatever you want to call it, is some sort of egg or embryo or baby or something to that effect, and that it's growing. And for this egg to hatch, speaking metaphorically, it has to have these functions in order to evolve into a fully formed version of itself. Of course I have no idea, but this is consistent with some ancient myths and the only thing that makes some sort of sense to me. In effect this means that the universe is learning by running this program, and what we do here will in some small way affect the outcome of what eventually hatches or possibly dies trying to hatch. My idea anyway, but what are yours? Sorry this turned out to be a bit long, esoteric concepts are hard to put into words, but I'm sure it'll make sense to him.

Thank goodness that we are ultimately the universal reality of open, free, unconditioned innocent presence beyond the tight grip of dualistic belief and identification (religious, political, etc). Wars are fought over dogma; hearts are healed by loving presence beyond name and form. Let us hold our beliefs lightly, like a feather.

I am a Buddhist not Christian. I find many things John says that resonate with me as a long term meditator myself. Others not as i do not subscribe to gods etc. That does not lessen the basic truth of much of what John says. Have to say though am surprised by the judgementalism of some of those who label themselves Christians. Though on reflection...no, sadly I am not surprised. You dont have to agree with John. Nor do you however have to 'correct' him. He is happy in his fairh. Is that not enough for you detractors? God i am sure has many faces for those who follow him .

As far as I see it, where Buddhism speaks of "shunyata" is the same as the "nothingness" of god which John Talks about. With god he refers to the uneffable in the same way as buddhists refer to buddha as Dharmakaya, Nirmanakaya, Tathagata, the nondual etc. etc. only from a different direction. Don't limit yourself through defining you as a buddhist, the tathagata is without form. Truth is where truth is, it doesn't care about the disguise

“Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10, is a popular verse for comforting ourselves and others-many people tend to think this verse means to rest or relax in who God is. This verse does encourage believers to reflect on who God is, but there is more to this psalm than one verse-and verse 10 is actually more of a wake-up call to be in awe than a gentle call to rest. Taking time out of our day to meditate on Scripture and be silent with listening ears toward God is mentioned in other sections of Scripture (Psalm 119:15, Joshua 1:8, Luke 5:16, and others). But this command-“Be still…”-is written in the context of a time of trouble and war; therefore, we should consider the verse with that context in mind. Instead of interpreting “be still” as a gentle suggestion, the meaning in this psalm lends itself more to: “cease striving” or “stop” and more specifically in this context “stop fighting,” which is directed toward the enemies of the people of God. The people of God should interpret the command for themselves to read more like: ‘snap out of it,’ ‘wake up,’ ‘stop fearing’-acknowledge who your God is-be in awe! However, it is good to note that there’s nothing wrong with the words in the translation “be still;” those words are not incorrect, it is simply helpful to note the context of the phrase. Verse 10 has something to say to both the enemies of God and the people of God, but it is the people of God the psalm is written to. Verse 1 starts, “God is our refuge and strength” (emphasis added). The Psalms are for God’s people. May both God bless you and also you be God`s blessing to others.
