It's typical for students to study a single language for literature. You may take classes in 'English literature' or in 'French.' We are used to seeing novels and films as part of an ongoing story consisting of a single language. Welcome to comparative literature - the approach which brings multiple languages together. Scholars who do this have contributed to our understanding of mythology, folklore, fairytales, magical realism, cyberpunk and heroic legends. In this video, I will give a brief overview to comparative literature and use well-known examples to explore this exciting method to studying literature.
