@@cialos848 its a lot of math, also coding. Its not impossible, but it is challenging. A lot of fun to learn. Definitely a good thing to go for. Im a soft-more computer engineer. Also five months late I know

@@mohamadcharaf7789 first, well i do not have much experience, I started with java in hs, but my college is all cpp. From what I have seen from the internships that I applied to lots of them like python or CPP, so I guess python or cpp

Most FAANGs just hype Computer Science a lot, guess a lot of them couldn’t handle the circuitry part of the computer engineering curriculum, so they conveniently just stuck with Computer Science.

@@ShawnHymel haha. I’m not sure if my brain can handle microcontroller nuances & all the typical breadboard quirks one had to battle with a decade before. For hobby projects, I might be up for it to just get a buzz in my spare time, but I’m not sure if my brain can’t stand it for a serious occasion such as a master degree, which would mean I have to do a solid thesis, & battle an insane amount of coursework. But I might be blowing it out of proportion, maybe you can share with me a link to you course?

@@mariamgafar4062 prob the pandemic. I really do like helping people and I don't see me in the future dealing with tech like this. Ever since I looked at comp eng I was always doubtful and confused. But when I focused on nursing it's like peaceful for me even though pursuing that career will for sure be hectic. Oh and I hate bio so wish me luck

that's what college is for, they're here to guide and teach you about the core stuff. Don't worry dude :) I started out with C++. Though it's a bit complex at first but it's a good foundation to start with when trying to learn other programming languages.

Im the same age and i can say the same thing, although im still un sure on what to choose

Just start with microcontrollers(like an arduino(ew)) I'm also 17 years old can't decide what to get. I'm insanely good at electronics, physics and programming but still I feel I'm idiot haha. I suggest you start but now, I think in college, it's still more of a self study. You need to be a self teacher and a curious person to be intelligent and good at something at least in my opinion.

there's but it might be on the 2nd or 3rd year if you really like programming i recommend computer science (its all about programming)

@@Dragon_prince90 ​ I would highly recommend Computer Engineering, There might be no programming in the first term but u could join a club if u still want to do programming. Computer engineering has all the fields in your interest (Hardware, software, network, electrical) and I would even say it the best engineering and IT course right now. But it still has a lot of math and science and boring subjects but overall it's great.

There is a good deal of overlap between the two. Mechatronics includes more mechanical and control systems that you won't find in computer engineering.

Yes I think so, it depends on the university you are going to tho.

You need to contact unis that you might be interested in and ask them

College will teach you all of the skills needed for computer engineering. You may find that you are behind in some of your abilities when you first get there (this happened to me--many of my classmates knew more programming than I did Freshman year). Don't worry! Keep at it, and you'll catch up.

Good Algebra.

You'll take many classes that are similar between computer engineering and electrical engineering. However, electrical engineering focuses on circuit design, radiofrequency (RF) design (e.g. antennas), power electronics (large motors, batteries, generators, power lines, etc.). You won't take many of those courses in computer engineering. Instead, you'll take more programming courses and focus on things like embedded systems, digital signal processing, and programmable logic (e.g. FPGAs). Hope that helps!

@@ShawnHymel Was the EE masters best relevant on your day to day job or what made you go and specialize in it, as less Electrical Engineering jobs are being put into the job market?

@@1anre I don't think getting MS EE vs. MS CPE mattered too much for my situation, honestly. For my masters, I could have swapped out one class and gotten the degree in CPE instead, as my thesis was all C++ programming related to DSP. When I did it 10 years ago, I think EE held a little more prestige than CPE, but I'm not sure that's the case anymore. As you mentioned, EE is seeing a drop in demand. It didn't matter too much for my day job (I was doing mostly project management at the time), but having a masters did help me get more interviews for my next job :)

@@ShawnHymel ah I get you now Shawn, that makes sense. Always told myself a decade ago too, that I wouldn’t do a masters, that a BSc. in Computer Engineering was enough, & that I’d fill whatever technical void or competency issues I had on my day-to-day job, with IT industry certifications instead. As by my 3rd year in Uni, I discovered the curriculum was outdated and I learnt more doing my own research online & even stopped attending lectures after a while because of this discovery.(parents weren’t happy with that.. by the way) Now a decade has passed and I have some work experience under my belt too, & I’m thinking of the Masters now, and similar to you, currently doing Product Management & Project-related work right now, not the core engineering subjects we took back then in Uni. Leaning towards getting a Tech + Business Masters specialization which can fuel my entrepreneurship side & also give me an edge by having a 2nd degree in interviews, but I doubt it’ll fully be in the core engineering space I’d do this masters program, I don’t think I would be able to handle the workload at this point, I don’t really know. What specializations would you say encapsulate this really well, and would still keep me close to my tech background, but give me a well rounded edge in business as I go higher in my career & might get tasked to do less hands-on technical stuff for my day-to-day work?

I wouldn't worry about the difficuilty. If you are interested in the material and want a career in engineering don't let the fear of failure stop you. You are more capable than you realize

Every major is difficult in its own way, there are no easy majors so don’t worry about difficulty 👍

@@tevejohnincipido8526 computers are actually really dumb, fast, but dumb. they can only do 1+1 or 1 + 0 nothing else. every thing after that is only more 1+1 operations. so if you can do 1+1 you can do computer engineering. Science is not only for the worthy but for anybody.

That's not the meaning of low-level language. A low-level language basically means a language that is closer to the computer, thus harder for humans lol

Eh, computer engineering covers a lot of things mechatronics doesn't. Lots of programming, circuits, computer organization, digital logic, etc. Mechatronics is a great field and certainly overlaps, but stronger on the mechanical side (torque, etc.)
