So, do us designers have to add the extra copper dots or does PCBWAY do that automatically ?

It's up to the board designer since PCBWay will only do what the designer requests. You could always contact them and send your gerbers if you have any reservations about your board design before getting it produced, or need extra design pointers to make sure you get the best performance from the board design.
