I completely understand. I had the same problems early on in my career…The instructors I had would never fully explain the complex topics (like Cp/Cpk)…I decided to dig deep on those topics to truly understand what they mean…Cp/Cpk was one of those that drove me crazy. Then I thought: “I bet others are having the same issues…I’ll start a YT channel to help” - this isn’t a popular topic/subject and I don’t get a ton of views but when I hear stories like your’s, it keeps me motivated to make more videos. Thank you for the feedback. Hope you consider subscribing. Let me know if I can make any specific videos to help. Thanks again. 🙏

Thank you so much for the clear explanation. I have a query @4.02 - If the Cp=1, then the process is operating at a sigma level of 3. Shouldn't this mean that the defect rate is 31.7%? (A defect rate of 0.3% means the process is operating at a sigma level of 6 and Cp of 2.)

Wonderfully explained, so what is more precise, 6*Sigma or 3*Sigma? If I want to determine the tolerance of a dimension, let's say I measure 50 parts then I determinte the Sigma. If I multiply this Sigma * 3 I get a tighter tolerance than if I would do the Sigma * 6. Would that mean that 3*Sigma is more precise than 6*Sigma? Thank you!

Chad great content! I really enjoy your style of communication and explanation of LSS tools. I would like your input on graduate degrees that a newer Black Belt could work toward to compliment and expand their LSS career. I have my sights on Data Analytics or something in that realm. What are your thoughts?
@learnkaizen
@learnkaizen 3 жыл бұрын
This is an interesting question. I’m not sure I’m equipped to answer it but I’ll share my experience...I did go to graduate school and opted for the MBA. I think this decision should be determined on your future goals. Honestly, I think the BB itself demonstrate analytical ability...I went for the MBA to gain insight into how a business operates. One of the most important things you’ll do is increase business profit. So having an understanding of finance and accounting and how they relate business ops is crucial. If you do a quick search on jobs related to BB or MBB, check out the degrees they are interested in...often you’ll see Masters degree in technical or business discipline...which covers both the MBA and Data Analytics. Though there are times when you’ll just see MBA preferred. Do a little research on that and let me know what you find out....others may see this post and be interested in the results. I appreciate your support on my channel! 🙏

Hi! Just discovered your channel, and I think it's great content for my work! We're applying LSS to a service industry now (out of the fulfillment/manufacturing business venture); would you be able to do a video about how LSS can be adjusted to a service industry where it's "less predictable"?
@learnkaizen
@learnkaizen 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I work in the service industry now and use lean more than six sigma...but you can certainly apply six sigma concepts to transactional processes that you’d find in a service type industry...it takes a lot of work to implement....I’ll think on this one and see what I can come up with! Appreciate the idea. Thanks for supporting me and my channel. 🙏

@@learnkaizen Thank you very much!! Because I've been struggling a lot trying to "localize" it and really make it its own. People get lost once we talk about process. Would Cp/Cpk still be relevant? It still almost seems like so because all outputs from teams need to have high quality? Hihi
@learnkaizen
@learnkaizen 3 жыл бұрын
It may be relevant. - it’s important to figure out what you really need then implement the tools...it may take some trial and error before you figure out what works...unless you can bring in a coach or consultant...appreciate the comment!

Hello, great lesson. I have a question. Can we calculate cpk on procurement time? For istance let's say that internal customer (management) wants to reduce procurement time from 10 days to 5 days since they think this will benefit external customer that in the meanwhile was not statisfacted of the too slow service. Would the 5 days maximum tolerance allow me to calculate a cpk on procurement time?
@learnkaizen
@learnkaizen Жыл бұрын
It’s tricky with one specification limit and I wouldn’t recommend it. If the goal is to reduce procurement time to 5 days, you need to understand why you’re at 10…what wastes are in the process preventing a 5 day procurements. I’d use a VSM, SIPOC and Swimlane process map. I have videos on these tools. It should be relatively easy. Many folks (especially management) want to jump right to some complicated statistical methods of analyzing and solving problems because it must be a complicated problem if we haven’t resolved it…95% of the time - all that’s needed are simple tools to truly understand the problem. May use this example as a video and walk you through it. I’m sure others have the same or similar experiences. Appreciate your question!

KPI represents Key Performance Indicators companies use to ensure very specific (hi-level) metrics. We call these indicators because the metrics are indicative of business performance…”is the business doing well or not”. We should tie these metrics back to numbers that are important to the customer such as On time delivery, external quality, Costs etc.…keep in mind these metrics are LAGGING METRICS…we also need LEADING METRICS that feed into the KPIs so we can address the leading metrics before they negatively impact our lagging KPIs. For example: External Quality may be measured in customer complaints or PPM (parts per million) - a lagging indicator…however to ensure we don’t turn red for that lagging indicator we need to measure internal quality so we can address any deficiencies prior to feeding the KPI. The specifications I mentioned in the video are related to customer requirements…and usually related to some kind of “widget” produced…the important thing to remember is that KPIs are the Voice of the Process and Specifications are the Voice of the Customer. As leaders we need to ensure the voice of the process (VoP) meets the voice of the customer (VoC). Does this answer your question? Thanks again!
@datascience1274

@@learnkaizen thank you very much. Both your videos and the way you interact in the comments are precious for us followers. I had actually wrote something that turned out to be extremely lenghty, so replaced that comment with this very last question on a pratical example. In many case studies I have seen that the goal was to reduce recruitment time, increase production and other things related to VOP (KPI). When this happens, let's say reducing recruitment time at a maximum of 3 days, can I still calculate cpk using 3 days as spec limit? I ask you because in this case spec wouldn't come directely from VOC but from VOB. How should I think in these cases?
@learnkaizen
@learnkaizen Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question. You’d want an upper and lower spec. You can run Cpk with one but it’s not recommended…however I would not use Cok for lead time related issues. I’d only use CpK for measuring widgets or some physical product as an output of a process. Ask yourself: what do I want to collect this data for? If it’s to reduce recruitment time to 3 days, you just need to evaluate the process and identify wastes that are preventing the 3 day target. While you may be able to use Cpk - it’s not the best tool.
