Back in 2009 we used Neil's tool box for referencing. We used harvard style referencing. Students must note that every source they consulted must be referenced. News paper, journals, websites. Also note that when referencing "and" and "&" are two different things. My topic was internal transcribed spacer 2 of nuclear rDna. Luckily got distinction.

☺ I went to India to write my dissertation. I belive that my guide was a great person with a mountain of knowledge. He allowed me to go to India once the sessions with him were over. I think mine was 15000 words with double line spacing.

Wow it must have been wonderful, Ankush. Nowadays university do not allow travelling outside of the UK, unless the research needs to be conducted somewhere else.

@@Dream_UK that's right. Back in the days there was no rule of this kind. People were even allowed to apply for a PSW from overseas /home country.

Does our dissertation topic need to be related to job prospects we will be applying after our degree? Can my dissertation topic and my job applications in particular role be different?

Yes it can be different. But you can bring some elements of the work you will be doing in a company. It's a good point to talk about in your interviews. But don't make it all about your future job.
