Down syndrome also known as trisomy 21, is a Genetic Disorder caused by the presence of an Extra copy of Chromosome. Chromosomes are small genes inside cells in the body. Typically, humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes, but babies with Down syndrome have an additional or extra 1 copy of the 21st pair of chromosome, which is called trisomy. A medical term for having an extra copy of a chromosome is known as Trisomy 21.
