What is the European Super League, it has to be explained...this was interesting. In this video we review and analyse: what is the Super League. I explain the thinking behind the decisions around the Super league by Florentino Perez, Agnelli, Glazer, Henry of Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United (Man United) and Liverpool.
The European Super League was announced with the support of 12 of the biggest clubs on the planet. Speared by the Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, the European Super League has put in motion a proposition that removes most of Europe’s elite from the iconic UEFA Champions league and into this new competition.
In this video essay, I explore what the Super League is and how it came about, my thought on this format, the wider ramifications of this new format, and how it changes sport forever.

I don't have any background in football but I'm studying sports at the moment and wanted to get educated on what's going on. You've made a brilliant video here mate. Honestly. Clearly people who know a lot about football are really happy with your content but I thought I'd let you know even those who don't follow football really gained from the value of your video

Are you in favour of the Super League? What are your thoughts on this potential, new competition? Leave them in the comments below 🙏 _(Also two things of note 1) at __1:50__ it's supposed to say 18th of April 2021* and not 2020 and 2) 8 hours after this video was uploaded it was announced that all 6 English clubs have opted out of the Super League. It is very likely the competition will simply not go ahead in the near future)_

Im a juventus fan alot of our fans are in favor of the super league, from what I've seen/read most of them bring up the fact that despite our viewership we get paid less than huddersfield (this was based on last years revenue or the year before i dont remember exactly) and the amount of lobbying that uefa and fifa have another point is the amount transparency the chairmans of this companys have which is almost nonexistent, at the time I'm writing this apparently all the big six have left but the Spanish and Juventus have stayed due to wanting change, i think the fact founding members cant get regulated that if this thing get through (it probably won't) will change

@@jerebear6987 There’s been talks about a ‘Super League’ for decades. Perez, the Madrid president, has been trying to make it happen for at least 10 behind the scenes I think. Think serious talks between the big clubs were happening around 2018. But the announcement that they’d made one, this week, came from genuinely no where and was a real surprise.

Breakdown: American Capitalism has come to European football. JP Morgan is financing this league. They are one of the biggest US investment banks. Manchester United, one of the main teams behind this deal, is owned and operated by the Glazers. American billionaires and owner of the American football team, and current super bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Bucs. The Super League is forming an American-style sports league, where franchises are permanent members of the league, with teams based in multiple countries (MLB, the NHL, and the NBA all have teams in the US and Canada). This is the natural evolution of European football. This will be the most competitive league, laced with international stars, and will reinvigorate the sport. Predictions and Speculation: I expect they will innovate with the content they produce, primarily to target gen z, who likes short-form content much more than long-form content. A prime example of this is the NBA's KZfaq channel, which posts loads of edited highlights and clips which do very well with the younger audience. I'm 22 and I'm an NBA fan. I don't watch any games because I don't have the time or a cable subscription, but I still get my NBA fix by watching free highlights and clips on KZfaq and listening to NBA-focused podcasts while I work or drive. This league is the only league that can claim world champions and "best football club in the world". The super league is now the premier league of global football and, besides the FIFA world cup, has the ability to claim their champion is the best club in the world. All other clubs can at most claim they are the best in X country. This league will expand in the future by adding more permanent members. As time goes on and European football clubs realize that this league is where the money, attention, prestige, and glory is, the best clubs remaining, the best clubs from France and Germany, will campaign to join the Super League. Though this is a big disappointment to hundreds of millions of football fans around the globe, as time goes on, people will warm up to the Super League. Super League will inevitably win out over FIFA and allow their teams to compete in off-season leagues as well as their players to compete in the FIFA world cup. I believe this league will become a lot like the American NBA. The NBA is clearly seen as the most prestigious basketball league in the world and is laced with international stars such as current MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Joel Embiid, etc. (these four international players are widely seen as among the top 10 players in the NBA today). The NBA is a star-driven league. Star players command massive salaries, the biggest in all of sports, are the key reason teams win championships, and are the most interesting and discussed aspect of the game. The NBA has a two-month-long playoff system where the top 50% of the league battles it out to become champion. The Super League will be made up of the best players from all over the world. North American, South American, Europe, Africa, Asia will all send players to the Super League, and this will help upstart viewership in regions those players are from. They will command massive salaries, their stars' salaries possibly out pacing current NBA stars' salaries. And these leagues will be driven by those star players. With team membership being static, the fans will follow their favorite players from team to team. Fans will become fans of players as well as fans of teams. I expect the Super League will expand the postseason down the road because the post-season is where the big viewership and money are. They may even expand it to include 1/2 the league at some point. Conclusion: American Capitalism has come to European Football. Expanding to an international, static format is the national progression of the sport and will allow this league to become the biggest, most valuable, and most prestigious Football league there is. The people who benefit from this are the owners of the clubs in the new league, lower-level clubs who will find avoiding regulation easier now that some spots have opened at the very top, the players who play for these clubs, companies who are targeting a European market, and the fans who will get an innovative and unique football experience. The people who lose out are FIFA and the other regulatory agencies who currently benefit from the structure of global football, the national leagues who have become less relevant, and the premier teams who have been left behind. The question we are left with is: what happens now?

As I scroll Twitter, it appears this is still a developing situation. My post was made with the expectation that the Super League was going to get up and running, and the clubs would not pull out after a few days of bad press. Chelsea and Manchester City both appear to be dropping out of the new league. There is a clear alternate possibility that this whole thing falls apart and ends up as a disaster cementing European football in its current formant until this whole thing inevitably happens again. What a wild ride European Football is on regardless of the outcome.

@@Black_CoreyNFin Enjoyed these comments and yeah there's so much to speak about around this topic, that's changing quickly. I think you're right in that this Super League format will not come to fruition now, but again I also agree with you point about how it will inevitably happen again. Perez had this planned for over a decade, this is something the big clubs want regardless. Maybe they'll do it gradually, maybe they'll just reform the UEFA Champions League until it resembles a Super League. We will see! Ty for watching!

“Natural evolution” lol. And having a Toronto team now means the NBA and MLB have teams in “multiple countries”. Umm, no. The NBA and MLB don’t have a team in each state with a history of playing against other teams in that same state. Apples and oranges. The champions league is more competitive and making it less so isn’t an “evolution”, just a dumb money-grab And saying the super league would determine the best in the world is laughable.

No no no, football is football, if the kids can not concentrate, fuck em, I know normal kids who are playing for 90+ mins, we do not need to change football anymore, apart from VAR, offside because of a loose shoelace, the kids who need highlights have mental issues, how are going too get highlights without playing a full 90+, 90+when Sir Ferguson time scores, good report mate, glad the fans got together, gooner for 45 years, need owners who know North London more than Wall Street

The German model is the only model we should be looking at and asking them what to do. They do things properly. And that comes from an British football fan. I commend Bayern and Dortmand for saying NO. Also PSG who could easily join it as their league is poorer than others. Football is dead if this goes through. I've been going off football year by year. This year I've completely given up. I couldn't give a shite about it, Unless its scrapped and spurs win something and Celtic get more money, In fact the whole SPL.

I think they were discussing that German model for English clubs but it seems quite unfeasible. I do agree though that it is a good idea, and I like how it works for Germany. Luckily the Super League format seems like it is not going ahead now, so there is a bit of hope. We just have to hope they also reject UEFA's flawed reformed model. TY for watching my friend.
