What is Fill Power & Fill Weight for Down Products

In this video I talk a bit about down products such as down jackets and down sleeping bags. I talk briefly about what down is, but then focus on clearing up the confusion of what is "Down Fill Power" and what is "Fill weight". When purchasing a down product you'll want to know the difference and what to look for.

Ok, so a 950DF 0 degrees quilt weighing 21.8 in not as warm as an 850DF 10 degree quilt that weighs 23.14 oz. ? Check Enlighened Quilts. This companies rating of its products is quite accurate. The difference between the down fills has to do will less down to provide same amount of insulation. This becomes important when backpacking and weight is an issue. No need to carry less weight if it does not have same or better insulation capabilities.

Hey great video. How do I know the full weight of my jacket? It’s not listed on the jacket nor does the manufacturer provide the fill weight. I purchased Woolrich 90/10 800 fill power ... got it for a great price at an outlet store. But it doesn’t say the fill weight. Just curious if there is a way to find out.

I heard also an easy “example” saying ,.. just imagine the FP number is the cluster size,.. the bigger number, the bigger cluster & will fill more space for the the same wight,.. then is lighter
