The United Nations (UN), established in 1945, aims to promote international cooperation, peace, and security. Despite its successes in various humanitarian and peacekeeping missions, the UN has faced significant criticism for its failures. Key failures include its inability to prevent genocides in Rwanda and Srebrenica, effectively address the Syrian civil war, and manage the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Structural issues, such as the veto power of the five permanent members of the Security Council (the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France), often lead to deadlock and inaction on critical issues. These failures highlight the challenges of achieving consensus in a diverse international community and the limitations of the current UN framework in addressing complex global conflicts.
