I understand that according to Oxford's Prof. Danny Dorling Osbourne's Austerity programme has been responsible for c. 335,000 deaths [amended to latest figures]. According to Private Eye the national debt during Osbourne's tenur went from 1Trillion to 1.5Trillion. During austerity the richest 1,000 people in the UK saw their combined wealth increase from c.256Billion to c.724Billion. Maybe all of this doesn't generate as much laughs but hopefully you get the point.

The tampon tax is a bit of a legal mess. It was impossible to remove it for many years due to an EU law that prevents single members from adding new VAT exemptions unless they are approved exemptions EU-wide, though exemptions members had before joining are allowed to stand. This would /almost/ be a small argument for Brexit... except that said EU law was revised in 2016 to add 'sanitary products' including tampons to the list of goods that are on the VAT-exemption-allowed list. It's just that for the intervening six years the government has apparently too busy dealing with more urgent things.

@@Unfortunately_MickeyI still remember an article in a popular fashion magazine about 20+ years ago in which a writer calculated how much she spent on tampons and other feminine hygiene products over her lifetime so far, used that to estimate how much she’d spend before menopause. She ended up with the equivalent of 2 or 3 long, luxury vacations to Greece. And that was approximately 2+ decades ago. I wish someone would do that again. I can only imagine how it adds up now.

I never have. I was in the hospital when he was presenting his new budget, ranting and railing about deadbeat dole bludgers - and this was years before Brexit. Whacked out on meds I shouted words I never use at the TV - I regret none of what I said.

Isnt it strange the same applies in Australia with tampons, they are classed as a luxury and are taxed with a gst, what is even stranger is both countries governments do this to degrade women and America takes degrading women to a whole new level, and all three countries just came out of the most corrupt governments in modern times, all three countries have a prefered 2 party system that the public hates because both parties collude together to enrich the corporations and all three countries are the countries that Murdock's propoganda media operates in destabalizing the countries by supporting the most corrupt politicians and political party to cteate contraversy that sells headlines and using his media outlets to influence public oppinion using lies and propoganda. Our three countries are closely linked and mostly by Murdock, but he has a free run in America with millions of susceptible people that believe his retoric so you want to see what is coming to England or Australia just keep an eye on America because Murdock's media will start it there and spread it once it is successful, take furries in schools, this was debated in australia and the big push against trans and gays is also hitting our countries

There are points in taking taxes, that they STOP taking taxes. In the USA Social sec, stops after earning about $180,000. Consider if the Taxes went tot he Top, and there was no cut off. Base corp taxes on CORP VALUE, and the Rich By every cent they make including STOCKS..

I will give him that adult nappies are essential, as anyone who takes care of an incotentent adult will tell you... I'm not sure the rank above feminine hygine products but ranking things that are essential is kind of dumb in its own right and not a flippin other thing on that list is essential. Do you know how slowly crocodiles grow? 👉Ozzie here and I can tell ya they have a big burst over the first couple of years, but still YEARS then slow down to less than humans. We do farm them but there's a reason crocodile leather and meat isn't cheap.

In fairness, as someone who's had a few elderly relative who became incontinent in their later years, I can appreciate why adult nappies are tax-exempt, in some cases they are necessities. This is not to discredit the point about tampons, they are vital too, but I wouldn't say adult nappies are in the same boat as helicopters and crocodile meat.

I fully agree that politicians should work towards a more affordable society. But, I don't understand why that responsibility falls on every rich person If I was rich the welfare of what others can afford would be irrelevant to me
