@@Ybandsoon Agreed. There are (1.) the mental states of hell that you laid out, as well as (2.) literal states of hell manifesting in the physical world I laid out (like war, starvation, torture, atrocity, etc). I can also agree that metaphysical speculation is just that - speculation. But that's still different than being adamant that it definitely doesn't exist. At least speculation acknowledges its own humility. Is there no usefulness in the concept of a metaphysical hell?

@@vidfuel12stop trying to explain god, no matter how much anyone claims, they are still far from truly understanding him, they dont know him, we only know the version of him that was painted by our own life experiences, expectations and teachings, Jordan describes god in a way that completely explains, yet leaves it open ended enough to find out exactly what god is ourselves on a personal level, as an atheist this is the version of god i believe in. it is not a doctrine, it is not a teaching, it is an understanding of our need for this god on an individual level, objectively, and also subjectively. god is not a father that asks for 1/10 of your income and cares a lot about what you do in bed while naked. it is the spirit that teaches you that making the appropriate preparations for future ongoing events, i.e., earning your daily bread, finding your purpose in life etc, requires making sacrifices, eg, utilizing time studying for an upcomming exam, or actually doing physical labour to earn your daily wages which you will in turn use to keep moving forward in life and not remain stagnant, the reward being directly proportional to the thing you sacrifices

I think most gods make more sense in a metaphorical way than in the literal manner they are presented in. 'God' is like the concept of morality, and 'hell' is the set of consequences of being a bad person. I personally don't believe in hell as a literal place you go when you die, but as a metaphorical consequence.

He's spot on. Nearly 40 and came to the same conclusion. Costs me the love of my life's.. my mice of all things ♥️💔 after 40 years of pain I had this realization. I never did what I should ever with anybody for any reason. I always just did my own thing. I look at my life and I never beared my cross. And when God finally forced me too.. word it however you want I truly believe I was reborn. For me.. and maybe not for all people it took a broken heart worse than I ever felt. I neglected not my mice but my life's duty's and so had to get rid of them. If you knew how painful it was to love a creature so much and to not have words to tell it you love it because you have to leave 💔💔💔 For me that broke my heart so badly I didn't care about joy or happiness or sin or anything 😢 Hurt so bad that I just didn't care. Then I was reborn. And it's not like you think it is. It's not some big celebration. It's in tears and broken hearts. Remember to be reborn Jesus had to suffer and die. Why would it be any different for us 😓

The Hebrew Bible invites the question “who is God?” not “what is God?”. Jordan is coming up with ideas/belief systems not an identity/desire for relationship. These are so different. Ideas and belief systems give people the illusions of control and that might change the way your life looks. Gods Identity and desire for relationships invites submission that will change people from the inside fundamentally.

That's a gross mis-assumption. Often people who say they don't believe in God simply don't believe in the concept of God that a particular religion may present to them...and with very good reason!! PLENTY of religious people use their own moral compass and attempt to escape consequences by using their religion itself. Humans do this. It really doesn't make a person any more or less immune to such behavior simply because they say they do or do not believe in God.

@@booksquid856 That's what you rationalise it to be, but the point is that even subconsciously, the reason why they do not choose God is because they don't want to be accountable to Him, they want to be their own God and accountable to their own morality. This is the real reason why people don't come to believe in God. They build rationalisations upon that desire in their heart to justify their rejection of God. *John 3:19-21:* "19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21 But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”"

Yet still, as we contend with the idea of God as it was most coommonly understood through years, the idea of being embodied by the spirit thhat calls us in ways described by Petersonn in this fragment, does not contradict atheistic worldview. The challenge is, when atheist says 'there is no God', to not continue 'other than me', because that is the shortest way to tyranny, and we've seen what it leads into. Thus, the call of an atheist is not to just toss God aside as a concept after contending with it, but to embody originallly external call to strife for the highest possible good, that one being Love, placed on the shoulders of Truth, via supreme moral effort, because if there is not something you bow to, only through said moral effort may one withstand the touch of tyrannical impulse and not become a tyrant. And the one who achieves such a point, won't do anything they want, because doing all you want is not freedom, it's slavery to one's passion and temptation. Supreme moral effort is also characterised by self-control, because without it we can't act out our will in a mannner that is not tyrannical and opressive.

@@booksquid856 Peterson works on a book called Children of Israel or something among the lines, and one of his obsevations on the matter of rellatiionship between the idea of God and atheists that I think will be keystone of that book, is that atheists miight be children of Israel more than anyone else, because Israel translates as 'The One Who Contend With God', and who fits this description more than atheist? The reason of this piece is not to slander atheists as if they can't be moral and virtuous due to not believing, but to convey the most fundamental ideas of mentioned stories from Biblical Corpus and to extract them in a manner presenting the goal and the value of said stories. By no means atheist is unable to grasp and implement concepts described into their lives, and no indication is given that apriori atheist won't do it.

Also I believe everybody's cross is different. I don't know if I can word things as elegantly as Jordan but.. I feel if all our crosses were the same it wouldn't make much sense cause the cross is a place of pain and suffering. Not just a place... Thee place. What would bring you to tears and suffering is not the same as would bring me to the same place. I think it's a place of change through suffering. I think I had mine or my big one and I believe I'm reborn. Or getting there. I neglected my responsibilities till it coated me my house. In doing so I had mice. Not a lot but I loved them so much. And in moving I I had 2 days to get rid of them by live trap after they spent 5 years with me and I fed them and told them how much I loved them. I had to drop them off wherever I could.. not many options. Field mice wild ones. Call it dumb but I loved each and every one just as I believe God loves us. Not because I'm special, not because I do anything even good. He loves me for me. For my sake not his own. The same as I loved them mice. Big small cute ugly... It didn't matter. Its not why I loved them. I loved them for them. For their sake. I cared about their feelings and thoughts and likes. Even leave us in the woods to escape death and have a chance. There's nothing more painful than loving somebody you can't tell in words how much you love. And to wonder if they know as you drop them off knowing they are scared and may never make it 100 feet. But it's literally their only chance at life 💔 There's no words that will ever break my broken heart and nothing that can undo that. My cross. My place of suffering. My cross was mice and it can sound dumb all it wants but when you are alone for years and your best friends are mice you'd understand and that's why it's my cross to bare.

I like that he is trying to give logic and only logic to the old testament so it's a useful guide to life, but I've rarely see him reference the new testament bc there is nothing to explain, in the new testament... Literally God speaks

God doesn’t just require the sacrifice. He also makes promises with that. God is also a kind and loving person and not just someone who does whatever’s necessary.

Jordan Peterson is saying that if you don’t follow the precepts of the learned wisdom of the ages, your life will be hell. The concept is from John Milton: “The mind is its own place, and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven,” from Paradise Lost, Book I

We cause ourselves and those around us to suffer from our own ignorance and that's hell. We can create a living hell though our own actions. It's not enjoyable, not be any stretch of the word.

i agree with jp, but I would say his off in the sense that God made humankind in his “image” and “likeness, meaning that "God" which jordan describes is that which god imparted in all of us, but not god himself.

That is not God, Jordan. That is common sense, a sense of duty, and a sense of morality. "God" is used specifically to refer to the God of Christianity. I am glad that I see this specific clip after I listened to the whole speech that you gave, because I can see how, yet again, you are conflsting common sense goals with a theological belief system.

“It’s easier to fool a man than to convince a man he has been fooled” -Mark Twain I used to be like you once. Jesus really does save though. He can rescue me, he can rescue anyone. I pray he does that for you. My eyes were opened to my own hubris and foolishness and time wasted. I genuinely hope and pray you have what happened to me happen to you. God bless you, save you, protect you, and keep you. May God remove the scales from your eyes and heart. May He fill you with the joy you never knew you could feel. May you walk with Him and may He guide your path. You are in His image and are cherished and one of a kind. So much love and grace to you friend. You are loved and cared about. I’m so happy you and so are alive at the same time so that I can share these words with you. I know that if I read something like this, not too long ago, I would probably be thinking the same things you’re thinking right now. It hurts to put myself back in that place. Just don’t close yourself off too tightly. Jesus only wants to love you, if only you let Him.

What's sad is when people think common sense is dangerous competition for their theology! 😆 Look, technically "god" is a term referring to some Norse deity. Nobody owns the term, and people only fool themselves when thinking their own religious description of god actually defines god.
