That's an ongoing problem for the Flames....they just don't want to do a rebuild of any kind and would rather wallow in mediocrity every year because they're "close" to a playoff spot !

As a Wings fan it's tough AF to watch your team lose consistently for over 5 years. Empty seats, lagging merch sales, no free agents wanting to go there, possibly losing the franchise... Can't blame management for not wanting to pull the trigger. Gotta have a few strong drafts before you consider it.

We (detroit red wings organization) should’ve made it clear to the entire league that you have to go all in or nothing. 25 years of consecutive playoff appearances when half of those years screwed the team over by not being good enough to go deep and not being bad enough to get good draft picks. Middle of the road picks and a middle of the road team till we went all in. Took Yzerman a few years just to clean up Ken Holland’s mess. All teams should have taken heed…if you aren’t hood enough to win it all, you are better off not even making the playoffs.

if there was relegation, teams would be making roster moves differently and you wouldn't see teams rebuild by blowing up their team.

With the relegation system, you can't keep the cap. So the same 5 teams would always be fighting for the cup while the same bottom feeders would come down and up every year with a few surprises per decades.

Doesn't make sense to have it with the AHL since they are literally farm teams for the NHL. For example, would you be able to send a player to the AHL team if they are promoted? Now an exhibition between the top AHL team and bottom NHL team would be great to watch

Go figure the first 2 Flames games I go to at the Saddledome, and I pick the two biggest gong shows. Sat near the glass for the Sharks game, and cost me a total $60 US. There were Press Level tickets going for $2 US, $8 with all the fees. Meanwhile todays tickets vs. Detroit for the same seats were like $400 Had a great time in Calgary either way. Sucks the Saddledome is gonna get demolished soon, easily jumped to #2 on my favorite hockey arenas with the Gameday atmosphere. Yall party hard out here. PS- Happy 40th Birthday Harvey 🐶

Win or lose this year, there are a lot of tight friendships on the team. Though earlier in the year, there were trade rumours, they got real when Lindholm got traded. Markstrom and Lindholm are good friends. They got a Kuzy bounce for a few games, but then NJ and the Flames talks heated up, and then they sat Markstrom.

As a Wings fan I had a feeling that Detroit was going to come in to this game with a chip on there shoulders after back to back flubs against Edmonton and Vancouver, what I didn't expect was a 5-0 beat down. Calgary just looked undisciplined and aloof for good chunks of the game and I just don't understand. I counted the Flames as a playoff team this year after what happened last year down the stretch and the team not wanting to repeat that. Getting punted by the Sharks should have been a wake up call but with todays effort it looked like the guys on the ice hit snooze.

Well, now there's a lot of trade rumors surrounding Tanev potentially going to Edmonton as well, since they could use a experienced D man to replace Ceci (soft, can't shoot, and makes a lot of boneheaded plays). They no doubt want to replace him heading into the playoffs.

The Red Wings are more solid than what people think, that's why they're still in the playoff hunt in a strong Eastern conference.. that's pretty impressive considering that most haters has them not making the playoffs.. and they've held a playoff spot for most of the season too

In the 50s you only had to win 2 series to take home the cup . Detroit was on the cusp of winning the 8th and final game of the playoffs . A young man that worked in the family fish market in downtown Detroit saw an octopus and thought “ hey 8 arms .. one for each win and thought it was a good Omen . He and his brother took one to the game that night and they won the cup so he threw it on the ice and since then that’s been our thing lol . Probably the most unique tradition in sports or one of them for sure

I said it back then, and I'll say it now - Huberdeau was a huge mistake. The player was a flash in the pan with a fluke season that he'll never be able to repeat. That contract will haunt this franchise. When Tkachuk bolted, the Flames should've cut bait and run. That's when they should've started the rebuild. They have 7 more years stuck with that untradeable contract.

Eh, Wings didn't dominate. Flames had a lot more puck possession, the Wings are just nuts at making the most of their opportunities and it kind of killed the Flames' morale.

I think there is a big difference in early season trade rumours and this time of the year when GMS are more likely to talk to players straight out about trades and the entire team knows they are about to lose multiple players that are not easily replaced and the direction and future of the team and locker room they are a part of us unknown.

I refer to them as Jekyll and Hyde.. They have times where they look really good like they do with Boston but the San Jose and Detroit games are really awful.. and at home too. I don't know if they're keeping them in hotels at home but maybe they need to if they aren't doing that. Start treating home games like away games because they're good on the road.

amzing how they are headed towards a rebuild, especially since they were one of the better teams in the league a coule yeras back. I wonder if one of the worst trades in recent memory is the reason. They'll probaly trade markstrome and get a couple third liners in return.

I know we shouldn't always be pointing the finger at the coach in situations like this, but I'm wondering if the Flames made the right choice in hiring Ryan Huska behind the bench. It just seems like he hasn't lived up to the expectations especially with the kind of team the Flames have on paper. But it's probably a little too soon to judge though.

As a fellow Flames fan, I kinda want to see us pump the brakes on this season and take the L's. Get a better draft pick. Plan for the rebuild. I don't want to see us stagnate by just missing the playoffs and getting a lesser first round pick 4 years in a row.

It's become the same tired pattern for Flames. They look good winning 4-5 games in a row and you think they've figured it out. But then they fall back, losing 4-5 games in a row and looking bad doing it.

With talks of the new arena mounting to a feverish pitch in Calgary, many have lost sight of the prize. The Flames are internally broken and have been for some time. Analyze the head coach position over the last 8 or 9 years. Systematically the coach has been let go, only to be replaced with another coach who soon comes under fire. Remember the fireworks with Bill Peters, many pointed the finger and said "He's the problem, lets turf his sorry ass" Nice guy Geoff Ward lasted a couple seasons as did grumpy ole Darryl Sutter, meanwhile Tkachuk and Gaudreau were itching to leave the 'no so friendly' confines of the Saddledome. Treliving and the Flames agreed to part ways, but we all know Treliving was glad to get the hell out of the downward spiraling shitshow that is the Calgary Flames. Now we hear talk of many of the Flames big guns throwing their names in the hat in hopes of becoming part of a real contending club. So the question is what is the sinister force that is at play? They are still playing to a loyal and hockey savvy Flames Nation who just want something to cheer about. Is there one tangible cog in the system that is extracting the very lifeblood from this group? If so, who is it? Lets start naming names and calling people out.... Who is the problem??? That is a fair question. This goes beyond a losing skid, this is an organization that is broken from the inside. Player's making good money, but not performing, no heart, no desire and no winning attitude... but why. Yes why indeed.

Don't know what to tell you man. Seems like there is some bone-headed management that infects Alberta's teams. Markstrom is hot trash, not sorry at all. His performance in Calgary does not tell me he's a cup contendor on any team. He has good streaks but can not produce when it counts. Seems like Calgary wants to will this team into working. I get that notion but I' afraid it's a dud. There are some good solid players but it sounds like they won't be there much longer.

There’s red wings fans in everywhere. They dominated in the 2000’s era with the Avs. So I don’t doubt that they probably have the most loyal fans to date. It’s “hockey town” for a reason
