When I recognized the danger, I shortened my steps so I was more stable. When you’re in a situation where you could sin, be still and know that He is God. Take smaller steps, and flee if you see it coming.

This is an on time subject. My church is suffering from gossip. My poor pastor has called 2 special meetings to address this. He has spoken the truth in love. Please pray for my church. We have had several people leave because of this.

Praise God for discernment of gossip and speaking necessary truths! Im glad John Piper has answered this question. One of the leaders in my church began to share with me numerous sinful problems. The leader claimed to share these matters with me given they trusted me as a result of my growing faith, but at some point, the sharing of such matters felt meaningless. Moreso, right then and there, I surely knew that everything I shared with the leader has been spread to the ears of others and based on that likely assumption, I lost the incentive to share with the leader my personal life. Without confidentiality, you're sharing your information through a delayed megaphone. I too am glad how John Piper has defined gossip; it verifies my convictions. Please pray for the members in my church🙏

A resounding amen! How can we bless God with our mouths and curse man who is made in the image of God! Lord please forgive me and help me and all who do this!

Take care with this: it can be easy to fall into, I think, especially in regards to - say, politics. Guard your heart, and remember to pray for those you love as Christ said - and to love those with whom you disagree, even if they are your enemies (as Christ said!). I've a long way to go, but Jesus is faithful.

I've been struggling with determining if I partake in gossip at work or not.... it's hard to pinpoint though being in management.... Incredibly hard leading a group of lost... past few months have been hard in a new vocation feeling like the very traits of self I should be amputating are the very same things that make the gears move.

She told people about What happened but only shared what I did, though what she shared was true for my part, she didn’t talk about her contribution to the issue. I want to help my friend Maddie who has been gossiping for as long as I've known her. She partakes in gossip especially when she's with her girlfriends, and it's not pretty. At this moment I'm trying to take advantage of every opportunity I can to evangelize to her. Am I expected as a Christian to avoid spending time with her because of her tendencies? How do I evangelize to her then?

Why does the definition of gossip cover such a broad range of social situations? Simply talking about good things about somebody else towards someone else when they're not there is gossip? I don't see how these things could turn into a negative situation unless what you were saying was literally alai or was just blatantly negative about that person what if what you are sharing to that person is truthful AND they are already aware?!? I don't understand.. I thought gossip is something that we all do all the time 24/7 and it just a normal part of life. Now I'm being told that most part of my normal life is completely sinful and I don't even know how to define gossip whatsoever the definition of gossip just got much more confusing.. when the history teacher talks about Adolf Hitler whom is not present in the class is that considered gossip? I don't understand man I want to tho

Next time the police comes to my door asking for information on anyone with regards to kidnapping/murder/rape, I’m going to tell them I don’t gossip. Because gossip is bad, leaving the kidnapper/murderer/rapist free on the community is so much better.
